16-Psyche

A large M-type iron-nickel asteroid containing more Iron per square inch than any other asteriod in the system. Originally the station there was built by the United States Steel Corp. However after The First Wave, it was abandoned and has found new life as an independent repair port of vessels, and a de-facto pirate haven larger than any other in the system.

Geography

Psyche is almost entirely made of iron and nickle both very important materials for space industrial needs and was an early site of development. It bares the scar of a massive Asteriod crack, an older form of mining now seen as wasteful and gravitationally disruptive.
  • Mean diameter - 223±3 km[4]
  • Volume - 5.75×106 km3
  • Mass - (2.29±0.14)×1019 kg
  • Mean density - 3.977±0.253 g/cm3
  • Surface gravity - 0.144 m/s2

History

Psyche was the United States Steel Corps first avenue into space development, opening the largest iron mine in existence on its surface using the old cracking method to blow open the asteroid. The site was so successful it lead to an iron price crash that nearly bankrupted the company. However, over time the company turned profitable holding a vice grip one iron prices and developing more and more in this one site. Things went well until The First Wave wiped the united states and with it, this companies home office off the face of the map. disorganization, unclear ownership, lack of supplies all lead to the sites near total abandonment. When the interplanetary community healed, Psyche had so long been abandoned that building other sites was seen as cheaper and safer that repairing the old shattered asteroid. However, it had never totally been abandoned. A small number of miners and works plied their services smelting steel and repairing vessels for cheap tax free earning it a reputation of being the belts best kept secret.

Overtime it became the spot to hide out and tend to ships when one couldn't go elsewhere. An anarchist stronghold that none thought would last. And likely it would not have, as the MDF and CC began gobbling up stations left and right, yet before the station saw its fate turn, the Belt War turned attentions. By the end, the stalemate marked the end of overt attempts to expand in the belt in fear of tit for tat retaliation.

This immunity has lead to increase usage of it as a pirate port and anarchism has turned into... peaceful cohabitation warlord-ism. Major pirates argue over targets, defense, materials, and how not to piss people off so much that Psyche is destroyed.
