Sol System

Sol System consists of the all objects within the heliosphere of Sol, a G-type main-sequence star. Generally considered to be 4 planets (terrestrial), one major asteroid belt, and 4 planets (giant). Many other object exist entirely within, or transit through, this space.

Notable locations:

Sol: this G2V star is considered off limits by all governing bodies without direct consensus from all current nations on all worlds. Passive observation and experimentation only.

Mercury: due to solar proximity, this planet is considerably dangerous to inhabit, or even study. No native species. No central governance, instead affiliated with non-local nations

Venus: a hothouse planet, home to two combative rival species, and their uplifted offspring in the ensuing peace.

Earth: historical nations have shifted minorly in the past 500 years. Much of the Eurasian continent is part of Imperial Sol. Other nations have formed United Earth, after the collapse of the United Nations

Mars : historical government has been Central Mars for nearly 850 years. Central Mars will always be the first to state that Mars is under one guiding vision, and there are no citizens in rebellion, open or otherwise.

Belt: every body of mass in excess of 25 lbs is clearly designated. Ownership must be established either by agreement of all neighboring parties, or by being the first to settle permanent inhabitants. Many older settlements exist from before the establishment of this agreement, and current residents are grandfathered in.
Ownership: (by mass percentage)
Venus: 13.4%
Imperial Sol 17.6%
United Earth: 15.4%
Central Mars: 12.9%
Contested 38.4%
Independent: 2.3%

Jupiter & Saturn: considerable resources mining occurs within the sphere of these gas giants. Many nations and independents have stations at various orbital levels. Various moons are owned by other nations; none are officially independent.
Activity associated with living organisms has been detected beneath the cloud layers. Current probes have not definitively identified the source of this activity. Beyond a certain depth, no probe has survived the extreme conditions.

Uranus: by consensus of existing nations, Uranus is considered neutral territory by which anyone can research and develop any projects deemed too hazardous to conduct on other planets. A nursery for many new varieties of Homunculi.

Neptune: the "Foothold to the Stars", this planet is the home of the New Worlds Project. Considered politically neutral, all species and organizations are welcome to contribute to common cause.

Other notes:

All known sapient species are primarily diurnal. While activity cycles vary by individual, all species seem to average out around local solar noon.
