The political structure of Earth has shifted in many small ways in the past 500 years.
Nation vs Corporation: Some time in the 23rd Century, America erupted in a second Civil War on the basis of Corporate interest. In the resulting aftermath, global rulings resulted in the limiting of corporate entities to a certain size. Beyond a certain scale, they were to be considered Nations, with the privilege's and responsibilities therein.
Imperial Sol: most of the landmass of the Eurasian continent is considered under the leadership of Imperial Sol.
United Earth: with the authority of Imperial Sol spreading upon Earth, and the collapse of the United Nations, many other Nations banded together to form a united front against them.
Paradise Republic: with the recognition of cetaceans as fully civilized species, a political designation was assigned their growing influence. Centuries later, opinions are still split on whether this was a good idea. Many humans still see the dolphins as carefree and idle, the Republic argues for their superiority for the exact same reason. They appointed an Octopode as a representative, leading to the Human nations to recognize them as civilized.
Humanity's drive for technological advancement and automation lead to the accidental creation of the first true AI. When collaborating with Borian mechanics, their drive to improve both their technology and themselves has resulted in the autonomous Species of Androids and Spartan.
