Venus

The second planet from Sol.
The planet is a hothouse, with vast jungles trapped under a thick layer of opaque clouds. Flora has developed to use other forms of energy (primarily thermal and kinetic), rather than sunlight. In the canopy, the Venetians developed long lives surrounded by abundant resources. Embedded in the undergrowth, the Ogron advanced through strength, outclassing the other fauna native to the undergrowth. Centuries of conflict broke out between the two species, with waves of Ogron warriors attempting to claim the bounty of the canopy, while the Venetians at a defensive advantage, but rarely taking an outright aggressive stance.
In time, unsteady peace was interspersed between the battles, and the information trade rushed to take advantage. During these cycles, Ogron strength was combined with Venetian wisdom to uplift a pet species shared by both sides. The Felan became a cultural touchstone that bridged the gap between the two, eventually leading to a cessation of hostilities.
The jungles of Venus are still largely unexplored. Scientists believe only around 25% of the extant species have been identified. Recent expeditions have reported sightings of settlements of a formerly-unknown intelligent species. Investigation is underway linking these settlements to the Varani of Ogron legend, a race of reptilian tree-dwelling hunters.
