Arcane Amplifier

"It isn't just a single stone which powers this city. It is through the combined efforts of many which allows this city to reach the sky. Just like our society, together we go further!" -Mayor Archibald's Remarking on the abilities of the Overdale's massive Arcane Amplifier to allow the city to fly.

Utility

Arcane Amplifiers are used in a number of devices across the world. Airships, smelting factories, clockwork constructs, high capacity arcane focuses, weather bubbles, ect. The biggest limiting factor in its use is need for a living creature to start the ignition spell. For whatever reason, a wand or scroll charged with a spell simply fizzles the moment it tries to travel through the amplifier. This has prevented non-magic users from being able to reap the benefits of the invention directly.

Access & Availability
The general principles of magic amplification is fairly widespread in the world. However its uses and applications are must understood by the Tinkerers Circle. An organization which fiercely guards its discoveries and inventions. Because of this the precise formulas and effective materials for the amplification process are constantly being researched and rediscovered by other arcanists and students of magic.
Complexity
The basic process is fairly simple. By embedding enchanted gems into a hardened lead plate, carving pathways inbetween the gems, then finally filling the channels with precious metal. One can create a cascading effect of arcane energy. Modifying a spell passing through the plate with whatever was enchanted into the original gems. This allows magic users to cast much more powerful and intricate spells without the tiring effort of attempting it without the amplifier. However the effectiveness and stability of these amplifiers rely on how these precious metals and gems interact with each other. Diamonds don't react well when used with opal. However it is possible if copper is used in the connection. To make matters even more complicated, different types of magic react better or more wildly depending on the type of stone it is enchanted to. It is because of the amount of variables at play which makes it time consuming to research.
