This article contains important information about the world of Starsong!
Among an ever swirling mist lies an almost barren wasteland. Rocks and hills scattered as far as the eye can see, and in the distance, the faint lights of a settlement. You look away for a second and the lights vanish. There is someone, or something, else out there; you are not alone...
The Natural World
Geography
Landscape
The surface of Strion is a landscape of hills, caves and craters with small settlements and larger cities dotted in between. From a first glance, there is almost no signs of life on the planet, but the more you look the more noticeable it becomes. Faint tracks from travellers and traders snake their way across the landscape, artificial shelters protect plants from the harsh climate and on the top of the highest peaks water collection systems can be found slowly sucking water from the mists. However, this detail can only be seen by those who have braved to enter Strion's atmosphere. From the distance of space the planet is shrouded in its mists, unknown to any who travel near it. It is both mysterious and exciting, but it takes a unique kind of spacefaring traveller to go blindly into the unknown with no way of knowing what they'll find.Climate
Strion is a hot, humid planet covered in a dense, fog-like mist. Although there is no surface level water, the air is very wet and this helps to sustain the life of both the plants and animals. However, the high temperatures mean that very few plants survive without natural shelter, and those that do often appear to look dry and lifeless.
The high temperatures also mean that many Strions choose to live below ground where it is cooler and they better able to manage the temperature.
Lightning Storms
Due to to solar flares from the Star Orion, Strion frequently experiences lightning storms that mark its surface with craters and pose a threat to travellers and other Strions who live there. Many Strions believe that these storms are more than a weather phenomenon and are instead a message from Orion itself. Whatever their cause, the storms cause a lot of destruction to the already dangerous surface of the planet and one of the main causes of death for Strions who get lost in the mists.
Flora and Fauna
Plants
Strion doesn't have a large number of naturally occuring plant types because the nature of its climate makes it difficult for them to survive without shelter. However, the few that do exist are of similar nature. They share muted colours, sharp, spiky branches and an almost dead looking appearance. They range is size from small shrubs to trees that reach over almost 6 feet tall. Although, the latter are significantly less common. Over time, Strions learnt how to genetically modify the different plants that naturally occured on order to create more useful materials and foods. These new species are often more colorful, but also less able to withstand the extremes of the climate. Because of this, most Strionan settlements will have Plant Shelters of various sizes used to protect the plants that they use most often.Animals
There are very few non-sentient animal species on Strion, and those that do exist often fall into categories such as reptiles and insects. There are almost no large scale predators which makes travel more accesible to Strions and played a large role in their cultural love for adventure.
Myths and Legends
Alongside the creatures that inhabit the planet Strion, there are many that are only believed (or claimed) to exist. Ghosts are one of these such creatures. Lost souls wandering the mists and taking the lives of unwary travellers.
The People and Society
We have wandered into the great unknown for as long as our species has been alive. It is never to late to find out who else shares that unknown...
A brief history of Strion
Strions have been alive since the very beginning of the universe and over that time have searched and searched for a way to explore further into the unknown depths of space. They are a naturally curious civilization and after exploring every inch of their planet, the next logical step was to look towards the stars. However, even through all this time, they have not yet found a way.Technology Level
Strions are incredibly advanced in some areas of technology but prefer almost none at all in other areas. They rely on science and technology to grow and store all of the food they eat, through large, industrial greenhouses, heating and cooling systems and the study of plant genetics. However, when it comes to exploration, communication and medicine, in general they prefer to rely on eachother instead of technology. They choose to communicate directly or in written format even when they have researchers and scientists who would be capable of creating communicative technology, and prefer natural medicine over manufactured solutions.Adventurous Spirit
Strion's are collectively curious, although this curiosity varies on an individual level, and always want to know more about their experiences. Because of this, they developed a love of adventure and exploration, often spending months or years exploring their home planet looking for new things to discover. This lead to a very rapid advance in technological advancement that began to exponentially decrease the more time passed. The closer they got to exploring all of Strion, the less new information there was to learn. They began to look for ways to find new knowledge and continue their exploration. The only place they could think to go was space, and even though they haven't yet reached their goal, they've already discovered so much in trying to get there.
