The Harrowers Troupe

"...Listen close to us, we have tales to tell,
Under the sky where the stars fell."
The Harrowers Troupe is a popular acting troupe in Starfell. They perform mainly folklore and religious plays.

Culture

The members of the Harrowers Troupe mostly dress in a gothic style, and are seen as very eccentric. Most of the members of the troupe are vampires, and all of them secretly worship the either the demon Kurisichul, or Lariniam (with kurisichul being the more popular option) seeing as they are the demons of darkness and trickery, and corruption and emotion respectively.

Assets

The troupe owns a small theatre in Starfell. They have many handmade costumes and set pieces, which are very commonly reused or taken apart and made into new props.

History

As Starfell began to recover from the The War on Darkness, entertainment within the city became more and more desired. People flocked to the theatres, hoping for distraction from the violence that had just endured. The Church, still wary of a cultist rebound, restricted the plays to exclusively religious ones, hoping to reinforce the "glory of the Lightbearer". This resulted in most of the plays being repetitive, and left many Fellians disappointed in the lack of variety.   That's when a new small acting troupe began performing in the city. They followed the church's rules and performed only religious productions, but often with a twist of some kind. Their performances were often darker, and explored the sides of the stories in the The Yuler that were often overlooked. The nature of these performances attracted the attention of the Church, but since the Troupe was following all the rules, they didn't have sufficient evidence to shut it down.   The Harrowers started to become moderately popular in Starfell, with many fans seeing their demonic undertones as all part of the act. The Church however, did not see it this way, and continued investigating the members of the troupe still finding now evidence of anything more sinister beyond their style of clothing and the nature of their productions. Later, when the Church lifted the restrictions on entertainment, they expanded to folklore and original stories, but would still often perform religious plays. The Church took this as a sign of their devotion, and althougth they still found the culture within the troupe and the nature of their productions distasteful, they mostly left them alone.   Although, this all changed one day when private hunters began to investigate the leader of the Troupe, Crow Rook Wilson. While all the other vampiric members of the troupe had been leaving and returning with new identities to hide their lack of aging, as the leader and the main playwrite, Crow Rook could not and did not want to leave and return unknown, they were also worried that they might be too recognisable to those who had been attending the shows. Crow Rook knew this would mean they would most likely die to the Hunters, and on the day of their last show, vampire hunters burst in and arrested them. They were later executed.   The other members of the troupe had to pretend to be shocked and betrayed by Crow Rook, when really they were devastated by the death of their leader and playwrite. But, they did not intend to stop, instead continuing the productions, looking to Crow as a sort of martyr, and an inspiration to look up to. Members came and went, and the vampires among them were much more cautious about their identities.   The Church, suspicious of the hunters that executed Crow Rook Wilson, began their investigations again not long after their death. They felt that if there was one vampire among them, then their was likely more. They never gave up their investigations, even catching and killing 2 of the members. But the Harrowers indured, and continued to perform, even allying with the reformed Order of the Nisurach Circle right under the Church's nose.
