01 Acceptable Progress

Set the Scene

The Verge Survey Squad, VSS, is ready to set out and explore on their multi year mission to document the Halcyon Verge Floran tribes. They are starting from the quarry outpost which is the only safe haven on the planet and have a long road ahead of them. They are ready to embark out to the local areas where air and ground support are still close by whenever needed.

Complication: 2 An obstacle blocks your way

Altered Scene: 5 Altered

Alteration: 1 A major detail of the scene is enhanced or somehow worse

or maybe not so much. Air support is going to be unavailable for a while since the weather has turned. Electrical storms are disrupting long range radio communication and travel is already slow from the rain.

They venture off into the East and find a range of steep cliffs. Steep wet cliffs. Steep wet cliffs with tons of nooks and crannies.

Hex Event

3 None

Athletics 15 - the terrain is treacherous and must be approached slowly but Patli and her ability to naturally descend into deep reaches quickly allow the team to slowly confirm there is no local Floran presence here.

On the other side of the cliffs the terrain descends back down into the jungle.

Survival 21 - much closer to what they trained for, surviving the jungles of the Verge goes by the book. The storms are over, supply drops are still relatively frequent, and the team makes good time marking out the area as unoccupied.

Storms kick up behind the now 2 day round trip air supply train and they aren't going to have enough fuel to make it back.

Set the Scene

The pilot radios ahead and the team has less than 12 hours to secure a clearing for a landing through the canopy or risk losing their air support.

Complication: 6 Things actually go as planned

3 Offer a Choice

they would need an aerial view to confirm they are in the right position, but someone climbing up to supervise would leave them understaffed for the final push

Arcana 12 they send up Patli to direct from the canopy and take the last 2 hours correcting the lights and guides

Skill encounter result (2) 9 - The Air supply craft lands and quickly sinks into the soft and uneven dirt as it settles

Failure Move

2 Put Someone in a Spot

The craft is stuck and the pilot is not well prepared for the jungle treking like the rest of the team. They have no choice but to get the pilot back to base, and start over without air support in a new direction. having no air support for spurts is planned for, adding in the pilot burden is just too much to risk continuing on.

Perception 14 - a local nomad Floran tries to sneak into camp and take the radio emitter but Kuro chases them out into the jungle before losing them. The nomad had a huge pack and was clearly equipped for self sufficient travel and so did not constitute a local faction or tribe. still... first contact.

Involving: 2C Current Need (physical)

the next week the nomad returns, not in the night but clearly during the day in an attempt to barter.

Diplomacy 18 - they are in the cliffs near Basecamp so the radio equipment, which is highly replaceable is traded out for some sticks, Floran weapons only Adana can really appreciate

survival 11 - the team makes it back to Basecamp with just enough supplies, largely supplemented by local resources and restocks and repairs their gear. Next embarkment will be without air support, and they still haven't met any locals other than one wandering merchant. but still... no one has died, so it's viewed more as slow progress than failure. Not the most productive 8 months.
