Esstran Sector (ehs-trAHN sEHk-torr)
Esstran Sector is a formerly remote Outer Rim sector. The establishment of the Hydian Way and the recent Daragon Spur have resulted in an influx of economic interest from the nearby Corporate Sector, and the resultant Imperial and criminal interest. The Hutt Cartel had nominally controlled the underworld here, but now the Hutt Cartel is collapsing into civil war. The time is ripe for a new criminal power to rise.
Geography
Part of the Borderlands/Trans-Hydian sector of space, the Esstran Sector contains two sub-sectors. To spinward is the Radama Void, a region swept clean of interstellar dust by an ancient supernova. To leeward is the Stygian Caldera, a dark nebula that obscures the worlds within, containing the near-mythical Sith Worlds. Between the two are a number of star systems also part of the Esstran Sector, including Thule and Jaga's Cluster.
Localized Phenomena
The Radama Void creates a region where hyperdrive travel is somewhat easier (+1 Boost to all Astrogation checks off an established route and beginning and ending within the Void). The Stygian Caldera completely blocks all efforts to look into the Sith World, and the Empire has declared that sub-sector off-limits save to those with specialized permits.
Climate
Stellar radiation in the sector is standard, requiring no special precautions for short-term exposure.
History
The Esstran Sector has been conquered many times, from the empire of Xim the Despot to the Old Republic to the Sith Empire. When the Sith Empire collapsed, the region was left sparsely populated. Even after the Hydian Way was built only the edges of the system closest to the hyperspace lane was populated at first. During the Clone Wars these edge systems sided with the Confederacy of Independent Systems, and were devastated by Imperial retaliation during their "liberation".
Recently, as the Empire allows corporations a freer hand and the ongoing Civil War distracts the regulators, the sector population has swollen as new economic opportunities flood in. With this has come a stronger criminal element, with representatives of the major cartels as well as local crime families competing for the underworld market.
Tourism
Other than Ord Radama, which sees a modest tourist trade, few people travel to the Esstran Sector recreationally. Visiting merchants and crime bosses, however, are common.
