Sobek Species in Star Tiger | World Anvil

Sobek (Fass)

A near-human species forcibly evolved and uplifted from reptilian stock.
It is commonly believed that human DNA was interweaved into some sort of lizard to prompt an evolutionary response.
When they first had a chance to glance at Earth's history, they got intrigued by the ancient egyptian god, Sobek, and demanded that to be the terrans name for them.
Their own word for their species is Fass.
Sauropsida means "lizard face", and is a derogatory slur, terrans use for these people

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Sobek are humanoid and closely resembles humans, however they are easily distinguished.
Like humans female Sobek are curvyer and smaller than their male counterpart. Unlike humans they don't have breasts though.
Neither do they have navels.
More Sobek than humans are bald, but many do grow hair on their scalp, which is smoother and stiffer than hair on humans.
While their skin is mostly light flesh-colored, it has tints of green where it is thicker, or in shade.
Another common mutation in the Sobek is the parietal eye - a hidden, photoreceptive third eye that many have in their forehead.

Genetics and Reproduction

It is assumed, that this is one of the areas, the human DNA forced its way through.
Sobek are human enough to have human-adjacent genitals, and can even reproduce with humans.
They are pregnant for about 7 months, but if pregnant with a human, it lasts three months longer for their bodies to adjust to the temperature of their unborn child, and for the same reason, they are in a more weakened state for some months after the birth of a half-human.
Unlike humans they do not produce milk for their young.

Growth Rate & Stages

The growth and lifespan of a Sobek is much like humans.

Ecology and Habitats

Like their ancestors, Sobek thrive better in humid, warm climates.
They are partially warm-blooded. That means, that their blood runs colder in general and they are more affected by temperature in their environment.
The colder it gets, the more slugged and drowsy they become.
Their blood can however generate heat, kickstarted by emotional or physical stimuli.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They are omnivores much like humans. If possible, their diet is more meat- and fish based than that of a common human, however many also have a sweet tooth.

Biological Cycle

The soft skin of the Sobek is hard to differentiate from human skin with the naked eye, however it clearly shows under a microscope.
Some areas of their body it is a bid harder though, where it takes a more leathery feel and a tint of green, and by age, Sobek skin seems to harden slightly and feel more like the belly skin of a crocodile.

Behaviour

Sobek tend to be more individualistic in tending to their needs.
They do enjoy social gatherings, but they pride themselves on self-sufficience.
Most human-sobek interaction does not end well, as they both have a tendency of expressing disdain to one another. They can't agree on who the superior species is, but they both feel a need to be seen as superior.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Compared to humans, the Sobek see better in the dark.
They also see more colors than humans do.

Civilization and Culture

Relationship Ideals

In modern days, many Sobek prefer the freedom of promiscuity, and polyamory is quite normal, but "ownership" of each other is looked down upon by most.
Some like the disapproving looks they get from humans by flaunting a harem though, and others have grown more interested in the human ideal of monogamy and "the one".

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Sobek society has always been matriarcal - in periods with women having several husbands.

I made this world because my mind keeps rambling, and instead of stopping it, I'm riding the wave.
It started with a picture in my mind of a tiger man in a small spacecraft following a giant tiger in space, in the tone of old saturday morning cartoons and the Heavy Metal animated movie.
Then came the idea of his occational ally, a woman in space flying a small asteroid. The more I wrote on her, the more I got intrigued by the past, I deviced.
Right now the flow is focused on her background - namely all related to The Genesis Project.
I do all of the writing and almost all of the drawing myself at this point.
My hope for Star Tiger is a published story or a graphical novel, but my big dream is an animated show.
