Issylra

Description

One of three continents on Bastion, Issylra is home to the capital city of Vespa. The majority of the continent is taken up by major cities and two large dumps. These cities crew into megalopolis', and at one point the planet would have been considered an ecumenopolis. However, the Saber Uprising, and the Siege of Bastion, large swathes of the planet in ruins. The populations of the various cities retreated to the core areas, and the most damaged areas between the cities were abandoned. Imposing fortifications were built around the cities, while the spaces beween fell to decay, leaving swathes of grey brown dirt and dust stretching for many kilometers. The oceans around Bastion have been heavily impacted by overpopulation, particularly around Issylra. The old beaches and coastlines are still visible, but the water is often tens to hundreds of kilometers back from them, and it is nearly devoid of life from overfishing, pollution, and the increase to very warm temperatures.

The continent is 3,267 km from east tip to west tip, and 1,439 km from the north tip to the southern tip.

Locations

The Northern Waste

These regions were marked early on in Saikar development as difficult to populate due to frigid temperatures, and tundra like ecosystem. When population began expanding, it was designated as a dump zone, and it is covered end to end in broken tech and old garbage stacked in artificial hills. Despite these conditions, a small population of people call it home, and carve out a meager living digging through the garbage to find salvageable materials, cleaning up and separating them and selling them to the Technomancer's Guild. These workers primarily live in Salvager's Respite, on the shores of the lake at the edge of the Waste, but some hermits and those wishing not to be found have made huts and homes out in the Waste.

The Southern Wastes

These regions were marked early on in Saikar development as difficult to populate due to regular, extreme storms, high humidity, and heat. These workers primarily live in Hauler's Deep, an underground settlement built into the nearby mountains to find shelter from the weather. Some daring, or very private, individuals have made their abode in the Waste.

The Onyx Shield

An L-shaped mountain range that divides the lowlands that make up most of the continent from the rugged highlands. These mountains are defined by their black stone and sharp, snow-covered peaks. There are a two passes that cross over the mountains, but they are treacherous to follow. In the early days, humans bypassed the mountains by water, and now they do it by flying. A wide range of flying and climbing beasts call this range home, as well as a collection of underground dwelling beings. Any settlements existing in th range are primarily mining towns, or meant as guard posts on the passes.

The Frostbarrow Coast

A rugged tundra landscape, the Frostbarrow Coast is frigid in the winter, and peaking just above zero in the height of winter. There are some rugged settlements throughout the land, mostly inhabited by those who rejected the Saikar, and fled to regions further from their control. Currently, the The Saikar Coalition - S.A.C has a minor amount of control in this region exercised through installed, friendly leadership. The presence of soldiers and government organizations is minimal, save in Salia's Folly, a mountain fortress established as a watch post and base camp for activites pushing into the Frostbarrow. It was mostly untouched by the Saber Uprising, save for a few stray orbital bombartment rounds striking the ground.

The people here live a rugged, but fulfilling life. They have managed to escape from the capitalist cycle of the rest of the S.A.C, and subsist mainly on a barter based system, trading things they have made or hunted. Import of food and water to supplement the supply is paid for with money earned from selling to S.A.C representatives.

While their is a minor presence in Three Forks of the Way of Weavers, many other deities have representation here.
