Kalmat Mechanicum
The Kalmat Mechanicum is an alliance between the Techno-Priory and the United Guilds of Ulg-Orat, two separate groups of Kalmat who obtained similar levels of advancement before re-encountering one another. While the Kalmat are often a xenophobic and isolationist people, the two organizations found common ground in both their biology and goals, resulting a prosperous alliance. Its likely also conflict with the Karkinos also made an alliance attractive.
Culture
Over the years, the two cultures of the Mechanicum have blended. While united in their desire to reclaim the lost technology of their prior civilizations, the United Guilds holds a utilitarian stance on it, while the Techno-Priory believes ancient instruction manuals and blue prints to be the holy texts of their machine god. The United Guilds has largely fallen into manufacturing and development, while making use of the Priory's devotion to exploring and searching to reap the benefits.
The two groups are a bit divided when it comes to adapting the technology of other species, and both hold an almost instinctual urge to destroy Akhaale relics when possible.
The Kalmat are a xenophobic species, considering other species to be soft and weak. Similarly, they are highly meritocratic, generally lacking in empathy due to the rarity of a Kalmat falling into hard times due to factors outside of their own control. That isn't to say they are a hostile species, they merely wish to not interact with others, as they do not have a terribly great history with them.
Public Agenda
The Mechanicum's primary goal is the search and acquisition of lost technology from prior ages. This is rather rare due the time that has elapsed, and the thoroughness of their various enemies. It doesn't help they also rather enjoy lava worlds that are more than happy to melt down their works over time. Most relics are found in planets that have stopped being molten infernos, or in distant space debris.
Mythology & Lore
The Techno-Priory boasts extensive lists of 'machine gods' that once lead their society, and believe machines are controlled by "Machine Spirits", while the more practical United Guilds understand these to be assistant AI that were part of ancient designs.
Both Kalmat cultures hold legends of a chosen group of their people who were blue, and that could travel the distance between stars using mushrooms. It is unclear where the origins of this myth comes from.
