Cantaro Races

On Ocarro there is a tradition of racing competitions, both foot racing and Feathered Lizards racing, with the latter being the more popular. The biggest of these races take place in Cantaro, and is called the Cantaro Races, which take place annually on the same day every year.   The events surrounding the racing also involve lots of cultural celebrations revolving around ocarran culture and cultural pride.   It is currently streamed across the planet, and even off the planet although not many outsiders watch it, via streaming services and the Cyber Web. It is common for families to watch and enjoy it together, or have it on in the background, on the holiday it takes place on.

Events

Over time, the event has grown from just being a simple race to an all-day event that involves multiple races over the course of the day. It has numerous different races, from foot races to car races, but the feathered Lizard races are the most popular.   The day’s events start in the morning with the simpler less popular events, like foot races and car races, before moving on to the Feathered Lizard races in the afternoon. There are breaks between the events which allow spectators to go get food from the many food stands or time for them to place bets on the next race, it also allows the event runners to reset the track for the next race. There may be short performances between the races.   Betting is a very common practice for people to do on the day of the Cataro Races, with some people spending exuberant amounts of money. It is the main source of income for the races and is what allows the races to continue year after year.

Cantaro Stadium

The event is held at the Cantaro Stadium, which is a large open-air stadium with a large oval circuit track and large grandstands surrounding it. The stadium also has a concourse running around the top of the grandstand where food stalls can be set up. The track has a dirt and sand surface.   The stadium is open-air but has shade canopies that can be drawn closed over the stadium.
