Playbooks in Soulbank
Official Playbooks
The seven User playbooks described in Hello, World represent various archetypes of User acknowledged as slang in Soulbank culture. Playbooks are not an explicit part of Soulbank's code or culture, and a User can be "misidentified" if they possess sufficient skills outside their stereotypical expertise.
Breakers
With the rise of Argon Entertainment, Breakers find their skills in higher demand as arena contestants. Fittingly, they also experience an increased level of prestige in Soulbank's current climate of celebrity fighters and the normalization of violence as a means of conflict resolution between differing factions.
Capacitors
Capacitors are one of the more uncommon archetypes, relying on an unusual talent for modifying data structures with an emphasis on creation and destruction. The D.A.O. has a particular interest in recruiting Capacitors for their own inscrutible agenda. Most Users, however, know not to anger someone with a reputation as a Capacitor.
Filchers
Everyone wants something, and Filchers are frequently a way to obtain it. Secrecy is very important to more ambitious Users, especially the more criminal and revolutionary ones, and Filchers naturally lean toward such groups.
Rollers
Although scarcity is often artificial, trade in unique items is brisk, requiring transportation. Rollers are in high demand where trade flourishes. In wilderness areas, Rollers often find roles in exploration and supporting the crews that seek out resources and adventure.
Seekers
Seekers are frequently adventurers moving from server to server out of wanderlust. Many can find work as mercenaries where the direct methods of a Breaker are inappropriate. Where secrecy is involved, they can also frequently find work as investigators and detectives.
Squawkers
Squawkers are very common in urban centers, vying for social capital. Where trade and conflict occur, there's always a need for negotiators. In the deluge of media, squawkers are naturally drawn toward performance roles and spokespeople.
Wielders
Wielders often find themselves as outsiders because of their unusual talents and desire to understand the past. Despite their eccentricities, they often find a crew willing to take them in. Ambitious crews often find they're powerful contributors to Authority functions, making their influence easier to spread.
Daemon
The Daemon Playbook represents three archetypes of Daemon. Anthrodaemons, also known as Kilodaemons, usually work to blend in with User society with mixed results. Picodaemons are the most common these days and tend to do work behind the scenes while avoiding the gaze of Troubleshooters. Gigadaemons have the hardest time fitting in, but can often find mercenary work among crews who don't mind hiring a Daemon. Their large size often makes them more than a match for the typical Breaker and may serve as sufficient intimidation to avoid a conflict.
Homebrew Playbooks
At the time of this writing, there is no official Process Playbook, but in the event of a release, we will deal with the changes then. The Multiplier is one of my own invention and stretches the conventional ideas of a character.Process
Process are recognized by the five major types, Cobolds, and the "expert," representing custom Process with specialized abilities. Users tend to underestimate Process due to their ongoing privilege, and with the ascension of Sirius Service Solutions, there is a growing fear of rogue Process who display signs of resistance to User will. Being the majority of the population, however, most Process can blend in with the crowd and avoid attention.
Multiplier
The Multiplier is often a challenge to traditional notions of individuality and shows some of the promise of a digital existence. They are the most distinct playbook, but any character who takes Multiplier abilities will likely be known as a Multiplier, first and foremost. Where teamwork and numbers matter, they are in demand.
