Hinterlands

The flat, agrarian plains of the Northeastern Hinterlands are the breadbasket of Karnes , producing endless fields of grains and rich, fat livestock. Unfortunately, its control was a central objective of both the Morin Regime and The Resistance and so it bore the brunt of the war as the two forces fought to control the region's bountiful resources. The resulting devastation depopulated hundreds of small farming towns, conscription and battles leaving only women, children and the elderly to continue. Despite Morin's victory he has always had only a loose hold over the stubborn and belligerent Hinterlanders and his soldiers and tax collectors in the region have learned to travel in numbers lest they find themselves “walking the fields” (as the locals say). Morin appointed his former general, the vicious General Vilhem as Governor. This controversial appointment has been with widespread resistance by the hard headed farmers of the Hinterlands and they have been engaged in low grade acts of resistance ever since. The regional capital of Amaranth is a single highly developed urban point in an otherwise agrarian landscape. The Northern reaches of the Hinterlands also include the towering Pandoran Mountains home to many different Barbarian tribes.
