Dwarven Drek'Thar

Drek'thar is an ancient Dwarf word for Assembly. When attached to a proper noun it refers to a specific Dwarven community, used without a suffix it refers to the full assembly of Dwarven communities across the entire world of Soma. The Drek'Thar is highly influential and a coveted ally, regardless of their smaller population. Drek'Thar are scattered across the world yet function with incredible unity due to their intricate and secretive transportation magicks which link the disparate outposts. Dwarves living in organized Drek'Thars are highly trained in both industry and combat and so wield disproportionate influence.   Drek'Thar operate as a blending of representative and direct democracy, with some issues decided by community elected elders and leaders and others decided by direct vote of the whole body. Dwarves tend to be polite but prolonged in their deliberations and it isn't uncommon for contentious issues to take years or decades of discussion to resolve. However, because of their strong sense of unity and emphasis on the collective will, Drek'Thar residents tend to accept even major changes with little complaint   Drek'thars are designed around an ancient and closely guarded magical craft of the Dwarven people, the Deep-Gate. These allow the geographically distant Dwarven outposts to be linked by nearly instantaneous travel. Because of this, Dwarves tend to think of all the constitutent outposts of a given Drek'Thar as a singular location. And the individual Drek'Thars as branches of a singular whole. It is suspected that the functioning of the Deep-Gates is connected to Dwarven theological and arcane research into the properties of the semi-divine presence known as The Dark.   Second only to the Maker Kingdom of Phaneros, Dwarves have pushed the limits of Magi-Technology the furthest. It is common for even far flung Drek'Thars to have intricate magi-tech elevators, railways and even some magi-tech empowered defenses.
