Dwarf

Dwarves are an oft-caricatured but little understood race. Ranging from a miniscule three feet tall to a towering five feet, Dwarves are shorter than most of the mortal races but often heavier, giving them a peculiarly dense physical build. While Dwarves are a cornerstone of a number of fields of craftworks, engineering and mining, they have a strong cultural drive towards privacy and rarely share much about the inner workings of their culture, theology or philosophy.   The handful of others who have been privileged to earn the true respect of a Dwarven Drek'Thar might be allowed a cursory glimpse into Dwarven culture. These insider stories depict a life bound by two overwhelming forces, Tradition and the Dark. Dwarves have intricate and profound rites, rituals and laws which weave through every aspect of life. While there are many different schools of interpretation and bodies of tradition, nearly all Dwarves hold the Tradition with the highest of respect and seek to live by it as best they can.   The Dark is a mysterious theological concept hinted at by certain Dwarven rites and rituals glimpsed by outsiders. Even still it is considered taboo to discuss much of its inner logic with non-Dwarves. They appear to have an intricate and vast division of the concept of "The Dark." with separate terms and understandings of the various forms of Darkness. They distinguish the depth of the darkness, the source or type of darkness and even the emotional or symbolic quality of the dark. Some of these Darknesses even seem to serve as demigods or spirits in their own right, rumors have told of a secretive order of Dwarven Dark-Priests who provide divine power to the Drek'Thars by channeling the various forms of the The Dark.   Because of their emphasis on highly practiced skill and generally meticulous nature, Dwarven culture has produced a disproportionate number of technical advancements. While Dwarves are not as broadly known for their arcane power, they are responsible for a vast amount of the progress in magical craftsmanship and enchantment. This has led to incredible hybrid arts called Magi-Technology which utilize arcane and divine power but enhance or channel them according to natural principles.
