Session 3, Scene 1: The campaign so far
Plot points/Scenes
Em's intro
- We started in Sherberre, up north in Trebor, specifically at Trebor castle, the evening before Princess Brianna Stormfoot was due to leave for university
- With Van Halen blaring over the stereo, as she was mid-air-drum-solo, the castle's steward, Elvedere Thistlespear, brought a tray of cookies and hot cocoa for the princess
- They ran through their daring scheme to fool the King and Queen the next morning, an Elvedere gifted the King's Ring of Feather Falling ready for the next morning
- Your parents came in next. Your dad spoke of how proud he was of you, being the first from the family to get in to the University of Shardinia, how the twins have such a good role model to look up to
- Your Mum encouraged you to embrace your Stormfoot side at University, not your Coldbottom side
- The next morning, Brianna got ready, putting on a very fancy but far too gaudy dress, with her Boots of the Stormfoot Princess underneath
- Brianna went down for breakfast, and the plan was hatched. As she began to read her magical teleportation scroll of acceptance to be sent to UoS, the castle staff sprang into action. A sizeable, but controlled fire in the kitchen took Brianna's parents' and sisters' attention away just long enough for her to activate the Boots of the Stormfoot Princess, sprint forward, put on the ring of feather falling and leap from the window, landing safely on the ground below
- At the same time, the castle staff, efficient as ever, whisked Brianna's luggage away and down the stairs of the castle, and it appeared through a side door next to her
- She raced off to the stables to meet her body double (the King and Queen hired body doubles for the family certain events), swapped clothes, handed over a big bag of gold, and while her body double read the scroll and was whisked off to do her best at the UoS, Brianna hopped in the back of her Dad's bakery delivery van, and was driven to the port at Trebor, where an airship was waiting to take her on her adventure to see how the other side lived
Nat's intro
- Staying in Sherberre, but moving to the city of Fruitellona, we went to a grand church at the foothills of the Candia Mountains. It's the only Church of Truth on the island, and one of only a few outside of the Republic of Taurinestein
- The church is very grand - the Temple of Torm spared no expense in building it, constructing it from candy mined from the mountains, and it has been the focal point of a vibrant community ever since
- We went into the vestry, to a bedroom decorated quite plainly, with a symbol of Torm the True above the door, and a large depiction of Torm the True on the wall just above the headboard of the bed
- Domenica was packing the last of her things, making sure to take the symbol of Torm from above the door so her parents knew she was taking Torm with her on her adventure on one of the other sides of the world
- Domenica took down the poster of Torm from above the bed, and laid it face down on the floor, revealing her secret poster of Vincendio Flambe, famous adventurer, that was stuck to the other side
- Domenica knelt in front of the poster of Vincendio and said a quick prayer to her idol, before tucking in to some breakfast and going to see her parents in the confessional booth at church to say goodbye - even on such a momentous day as this, Domenica's parents take their faith and service to the community very seriously
- Her parents spoke of Domenica's struggles at school, where even in a community of fantasy creatures, being the only person was red skin was tough
- Her parents were so excited that she was going off on a grand adventure, and did as they've always done - told Domenica that she was great just the way she is, and if anyone doesn't think the same, then they aren't worth being friends with
- They gifted Domenica with the Lantern of the True, and the Amulet of Torm's Mercy
- Domenica made her way to the port at Fruitellona, where she got on a boat to Caffeinehagen
Charlie's intro
- We then went to Caffeinhagen, to a 5 storey townhouse in a not particularly prosperous part of the city
- The ground floor of the house is taken up by a shop, with a very long sign across the front that reads "Pia and Kiran's Silver Things and Things Made out of Other Materials that are Similar to Silver"
- We cut to a bedroom adorned with all sorts of fantastic contraptions that are supposed to make life easier, but the constant maintenance and calibration would make even the most avid tinkerer question their life choices
- An extremely complicated alarm clock goes off, and Wallace and Gromit style, Cassiopeia seamlessly went from sound sleep into an upright position
- Cassiopeia went down to the basement, where she heard her parents tinkering on something. She helps them with whatever it is and they have a chat about her moving to Uni
- I think the jist was to say don't take any shit from anyone. Lots of people won't have seen a Vedalken before, let alone met one
- They gave Cassiopeia the completed Badge of Spell Storing and said she should go upstairs and say bye to granny Kaya
- Granny Kaya talked to Cassiopeia for a while, was feisty, and gave her some Bracers of Defence to protect her
- After talking to Kaya, Cassiopeia went back downstairs, and after proudly telling Cassipoeia that they'd fixed the horse, her parents gave her a lift to university on their mechanical horse-drawn carriage
Meeting at Uni
- Everyone made their way to Caffeinehagen University, found their way to their halls of residence, and met each other as they settled in to their flat
- The gang spent their first night having some food and a drink, and getting to know each other
Fresher's fair
- The gang went to Fresher's Fair, where there were a bunch of stalls from societies of all kinds
- The group visited a few stalls
- Domenica went to every stall for a chat. She has a good chat with the Journalism Society, who run the Uni Paper - The Message
- Cassiopeia had a chat with the Tinkerers
- Brianna had a chat with the Jazz Society
- The group went to the Adventuring Society, and met the 4 members - Hallia Vedalken, Runk Skunklung, Ilkan Longleap and Ari Mas
- After a quick chat, Haalia gave them a leaflet about LARPing, and a riddle, which they solved revealing a hidden message written on the leaflet in UV ink. The message told them the time and location of tryouts for the society
Adventuring society tryouts
- They went to the woods on campus and met with the society members who explained what the tryout would be - an intense LARP capture the flag battle
- Gangs were paired together to battle each other, and the society would be looking to see the skills of each gang, and how well they worked together as a team
- The gang swiftly dispatched another set of budding adventurers in their tryout for the society and impressed the leaders while they were at it
The truth about the adventuring society
- Everyone that made it past tryouts was invited to the AdSoc house to have a look round and find out about the next part of the process
- The house is in a wooded area, quite an old building, in need of a little TLC, but the society have turned it into a haven for battle training
- Hallia gave a talk about the real Adventuring Society, and their mission
The four of us have found that we have something in common - the shadows. History has forced us all to live in the shadows. It forced our parents to live in the shadows, it forced our ancestors to live in the shadows - to live in hiding from the authorities that say they will take care of us. The same authorities that took everything from our communities - our possessions, our homes, our freedom, our dignity. We were made to be outsiders, forced into poverty while the wealthy and powerful appropriated our customs, our knowledge and our heirlooms - stealing from our communities and flaunting our creations - the relics that gave our communities their identity and power - as their own.
I guess you didn't hear about any of this at school? No, of course not, because our ancestors didn't get to write their own stories. They got to be the villains of everyone else's stories, and then for their troubles they could go to a museum or a stately home and look at a bunch of their own stuff. Their own stuff, the theft of which is being paraded as the outcome of a cultural connection initiative or a diplomatic mission.
We came together through a shared curiosity about our ancestry. We wanted to find out everything we could about the history of our communities, and the more we discovered, the more this fire started to burn within all of us.
We wanted to try to right some of these wrongs, so we formed the adventuring society with the mission that we would take back what was taken from our communities, from our cultures, and we would return what we could to what is left of our people.
While we don't expect everyone in this room to sympathise with, or even believe us, and we can't expect you to all feel as strongly for our cause as we do, if you want to experience real adventure, if you feel like an outsider too, or if you want to be an ally, you are most welcome to join us on our mission.
- A couple of people left, but there were a few groups who stayed behind to join the society
- The leaders invited everyone else for a night out at the student union
Night out at the SU
- Chance for further roleplay, and roleplay with the Adventuring Society members
- Maybe some games (Air Hockey)
- Drinks
- Through the night all other prospective members leave
- Runk gets really drunk - the alcohol and his Skunklung medicine don't mix
- Food afterwards with a bit more getting to know the society members
- After getting food, the group see flashes of light and hear screams start to erupt across the campus
- Hallia told them to go to their halls and see what was going on
