Session 1, Scene 2: One last kegger

Plot points/Scenes

One last kegger

It's a warm Summer evening in Turmerica. We see a huge house, set into the side of a volcano in the suburbs of Habanero City. A stylish, clean, modern house, the building spans several floors and has a lavish terraced garden, complete with a swimming pool which is currently full of senior year high schoolers. The sky flickers as Paprika fireworks are set off haphazardly from the top terrace of the garden, and the explosions interrupt the shouts and screams of partygoers to the greatest party ever - Jarod Kozunski's end of Summer kegger. Jarod has lots of parties, and this one is the last one of your senior year of high school.

Song - 1985, Bowling for Soup

The party is absolutely epic - beer is flowing, the pool is bubbling, Jarod's parents are out for the night, and most importantly, the tunes are banging. The house is packed to the rafters with students from Roquito High School, and a large portion of them are watching the greatest feat of alcohol consumption that they've ever seen. Gordon, would you please describe the person who is doing an epic keg stand to a massive cheer from everyone in the kitchen.

Gordon describes his character

Jarod Kozunski helps you up from the handstand, brushes off and straightens your orange and white Blitzball team letter jacket, and raises your hand aloft - "The greatest chugger in Habanero City!" - and the entire room erupts into a chant "Let's go Dick Head let's go!". The rest of the Roquito High Phoenix Blitzball team are all there, and they lead the room in the team's song. Jarod leads you away from the noisy kitchen, through the house and out onto a quiet balcony.   Jarod is a Dragonborn, and captain of the Blitzball team. Jarod has been your closest friend for a long time. You've always been afraid that people only like you because it's such a wild ride to be around you - that if you stopped doing crazy stuff, you'd be alone. But Jarod has always seemed to really care about you, you've known him since your first family, and he's the only person you've ever talked to about that experience. Jarod earned a Blitzball scholarship to University of Shardinia, and things have been a bit strained since. Jarod's trying to do right by you, trying to make sure you're going to be okay, but you're feeling a bit patronised. You don't need his help and you don't need his pity. You've always taken care of yourself, and if he's going to Shardinia University then you're just going to have to carry on doing that. You got home from school the other week and he was sat with your parents chatting about how you're going to deal with going to different universities. You haven't told him, but that really pissed you off. You're still friends, but there's a bit of unspoken tension between you.
Jarod and Dick have a final heart-to-heart before going their separate ways. Points to hit:
  • Jarod is worried about Dick - the drinking, the partying, there are going to be bigger ragers at uni, bigger problems at those parties than just alcohol, and he doesn't want Dick to get involved with the wrong kind of people
  • Dick's got a great opportunity to find something that makes him happy at university
  • Maybe some distance from the family will be good - you know they love you very much and just want the best for you, but maybe being away from home will help you find your feet
If the conversation moves to Jarod's life at all, people start leaving as the night is old, and someone comes out onto the balcony and yells to Jarod:
Hey Jarod, it must be so cool to have parents that let you have parties all the time, your parents don't give a shit!
Jarod tells them to leave and is quite pained.   Jarod gets a bit defensive and says he's only trying to help. Dick probably wouldn't have got to university without him. He might not even have lived to see it.   After the conversation is over, Jarod will offer to help Dick get home, or offer him a bed for the night.   Back at home the next morning, Dick's parents have put on a special breakfast for him - giant stacks of waffles with Percy Pig bacon and syrup from Sherberre.
Your parents are very loving, and they try very hard to make you happy and give you a good life, but they don't understand you. You've never really felt comfortable enough to tell them about your previous family, but they know it was a horrible time for you. Despite not fully understanding you, they've always had your back and they've tried to help you find yourself as you've moved towards adulthood. A working class family from Habanero City, your mother is a teacher at a nearby primary school, and your father is a counsellor who works predominantly with the workers of the nearby Alanmantium mine. The kitchen is quaintly decorated this morning with good luck banners, balloons and bunting all set up. You come downstairs with a massive hangover.
When you go to get your things, you go to the back of your closet, and take out something you stole from your previous family. It's the horn. The last thing you put on is the only possession you have that belonged to your birth parents - a ring of fire resistance. All you know about them is that they worked in the mine, and everyone who worked close to the mining machinery had to wear one to protect them from the searing heat involved.   The way to uni is a giant cannon like machine that blasts a capsule over the steep-tide. It then converts into a boat and sails to the port at Caffeinhagen.
