Bloody-Neck Jacko Character in The Shard of Elan | World Anvil

Bloody-Neck Jacko

The Wakari Coast is an influential trading nation today, but this area was originally settled by pirates seeking refuge and a place to treat among themselves and found it in the protected shore and islands here. There were many pirate fleets (though the term may be too generous for the majority of the rickety boats and more-rickety crews), but the most famous, and justly so, belonged to a man known best by his sobriquet Bloody-Neck Jacko.   There are several legends purporting to explain how he came by this colorful name, from an intimidation tactic of wearing pieces of former victims to an unsuccessful beheading attempt, but most or all are merely stories invented to please audiences in the centuries since. What is known is that Bloody-Neck Jacko organized the ragtag and competing bands of pirates, mostly fishermen who had fled the wars in Tyrg or Damas, into a structured society of their own and founded what became the kingdom of the Wakari Coast.   Modern Wakari histories generally refer to this historical figure as King Jacobi the First, but Chrenadan records, still showing the sting of Bloody-Neck Jacko's blockading the port in demand of King Alham's daughter, made fewer accommodations with his change in status.   One of Bloody-Neck Jacko's senior crew, Red Harper, is purported to be a founder of The Gehrn but this is disputed by most reputable historians.
