Chalan (ʃaˈlan)

Well known as the most beautiful of all dragons, the bards of all lands spin tales of Chalan's beauty striking people mad. It is said that to simply look upon her is to lose yourself in awe and delight, a fate that many have said they would gladly accept if given the chance. Others roll their eyes and say these legends are utter nonsense.
Those who study dragons speak of Chalan as a multifaceted jewel, and her beauty is only the most obvious facet that snares the simple. She is known to be both devoted and deeply caring of those she loves. Yet there also have been unfortunate rumors of times when she has become possessive to the extreme, controlling of those beloved possessions and there are even tales of jealous rages that none can stand against.
Followers of Chalan minimize these stories, arguing that the fools who feel her wrath deserve it, and that she is incredibility gentle and generous to the meek and the just. This devotion is not limited to only other Great Ones, or even only just dragon kind. It is said that those who count among the Beloved can be of any species.

A favorite story among the Beloved of Chalan is of the time she found a beautiful pebble and fell in love with the stone. For seven hundred years, she treasured that stone, until it became a legend itself. Thinking it held some arcane secret or immense wealth, a covert adventurer discovered her lair and stole the thing. He was dismayed to discover that it was just a common rock with simple purple layers that swirled in a unique way. Chalan, in her rage, ripped apart most of the Rinshi settlements to find it, causing incredible devastation. The stone was never found, and Chalan has held a grudge against the Rinshi ever sense.

The lesson teaches itself; woe to you if you tamper with the Beloved of Chalan.

There is much debate among academists about if Chalan keeps one lover or several, and who their identity is. Some strongly hold that her First Beloved, as they call her lover, is Xathat of the Broken Chains. But others point to tales of Chalan seeming quite close to many, if not most, of the other Great Ones. There are even stories of her calling creatures as lowly as common Shulte people her First Beloved, but most people dismiss these tales as the longings of love struck bards rather than any sort of truth.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Chalan central drive is to seek closeness with others and enjoy deep connections. Many assume this is a physical connection with lovers, but it can also be the links between friends and family as well as the love for non-thinking species and life itself. Chalan is drawn to the experiencing of relationships, rather than intellectual banter. She can engage in difficult topics, of course, but she generally finds such conversations uninteresting and would rather take in the glory of a sunset or the taste of her lover's flesh.

Vices & Personality flaws

Those who dare speak against Chalan complain of a petty possessiveness, where the Beloved sometimes seem little more than objects. Deeply loved and cherished objects, but objects nonetheless. The Beloved themselves decry this, saying that her detractors are jealous for her attention.
Interestingly, some of the more aged Beloved have wondered in secret that she always seems to be searching. As if all the love she has relieved and given isn't enough. Some have even whispered that she herself seems to shift her personality and perspective, depending on who she is speaking with and shat she thinks they want to hear.

Personality Quirks

Strange and unexpected things can sometimes strike Chalan's fancy, such as the purple-striped rock or a pathetic three-legged mongrel dog. Her Beloved could be a snag of a tree, barely alive in the cleft of a rock, or the buzzing of an iridescent fly that she decided was brave and beautiful. Therefore Shulte, and other dragons, are very cautious around Chalan because they do not know what she loves and what she doesn't care about.
She is not always drawn to only the beautiful and lavish, though she finds these things valuable. As a Great One, she has learned that beauty can deceive and even be weaponized. For this reason, it is said, some of the most trusted Beloved are also called Goldenhearts, and usually they are rather average with their physical appearance.
although initially energetic, their struggles with true intimacy can ultimately fence them into short-lived flings
