Court of Thorns in Shadar | World Anvil

Court of Thorns

The Court of Thorns is an alliance of Vampires that was formed in the Age of Darkness during the War of Thorns to unite their collective powers against the attacking militias from The Silver Road. While there was no defined leader of the group, the bloodlines Toreador and Ambrose were seen as de facto leaders due to the power that Isabella Toreador and Markov Ambrose had in the Imperial Fractals.   At its peak, this alliance was the most formidable power in the Imperial Fractals for almost a century. The army of Undead husks and thralls under its command numbered greater than any fighting force even by today’s standards and they were able to carry out aerial attacks on The Silver Road with winged Undead monstrosities and wage land war across the region. Though as the war stretched on and Vampire Lords began to be defeated by the militias and a fledgling new Valedori Empire, they grew more desperate in their pursuit of greater power. Legends speak of the vampire’s delving further into blood magic and the Shadeweave in search of power to win the war, including digging deep into the core of the Fractals themselves in search of the Knotted Stone core. None such constructions or lairs have been found.

THE REMNANTS OF THE COURT

While they were ultimately defeated at the end of the War of Thorns, not all of the Vampire Lords were killed outright. There were a handful of those who fled, including Isabella and Valentin Toreador, who are believed to have hidden in the ruins of a massive, ancient castle - now floating amidst the Fractals of the Coalition Archipelago. Called by those living in the region as Thultanar Skyruin, some have reported seeing other, lesser Vampires who call this place home and on occasion attack Skyships in the area, feasting on the pirate crews. Some even claim there is communication between these Vampires and the Holy Kingdom of Shar, for exchange of information on the Hollow and for a place to send any Vampires that might form amidst their society of Shadar-Kai.   It is unknown how many Vampires make up the Court of Thorns today. However, many believe that The Camarilla still serves the will of the court, and is somehow in communication with its surviving members.
