The Silver Road is both a common reference to the Silvermark region and the trade route of silver ore and
Silvered Weapons that runs through the Silvermark and across the clouds to the ports of
Valedor and
Castile. Today, people still refer to the entirety of the Silvermark by this name, though it is most often used by locals of the region to reference the business of mining, refining, and transporting silver - as the role this trade route played during the
War of Thorns has long since passed.
STORIED HISTORY OF THE ROAD
Founded in the
Age of Darkness, this trade route once wove through the
Fractal of the Silvermark and spread out to the various scattered
Haven cities in the nearby skies - with the purpose of arming survivors with
Silvered Weapons to help protect their
Havens and begin to fight back against the undead. This trade became the foundation of fledgling
Devilblood Companies, such as the
Silvertide Company, who became the primary facilitators of this - leading to the connection of
Devilbloods and silver.
With the spreading of resources along the trade route, the
Skyships also carried with them the first forms of communication and unity between the disparate settlements of the age - a gathering storm that would eventually lead to the flights of
The Dawnbreaker and the founding of the
Valedori Empire. During the
War of Thorns, this region became critical to continue arming larger armies with
Silvered Weapons to face the
Vampire Lords, which led to many more settlements and mining operations to be built across the Silvermark region - settlements that remain today and play active roles in the continued silver trade.
THE SILVER TRADE
While the world is not in as dire need of silver as it once was during the
War of Thorns, it remains an incredibly valuable resource throughout the modern world - highly requested by
Devilblood Companies of the Imperial Fractals and the
Imperial Army for the cleansing of
Fractals in their
Nimbus Sea expansion. The highest demand for silver though happens to be the Diaspora Fractals - with their untamed
Fractals and exploration efforts in the
Nimbus Sea. However, with their lands still devoid of silver compared to the rich deposits along
The Silver Road, it has led to a significant amount of illicit trade in the region and tension with the
Valedori Empire.
While the
Silvertide Company still maintains much of the transportation of these
Silvered Weapons, the mining of this resource falls to the many Dwarven Mining Guilds of the Silvermark. Significant silver mining operations can be found in the rich silver veins of
Mount Silfjaldur in
Port Sunder and in the catacombs of
Sigyn's Leap - though the latter has been slowly drying over the past decade.
