Wave Guard

Svante II Shiroko, also known as Sea King, was the first and only great naval commander of the Shiroko Dynasty. He conquered the northern islands, adding them to the empire, created the Okenumi, and is currently worshiped as a Dea by the Marn people of northern Eoion  His death in 653 during a sudden storm between the main continent and the islands was seen as a tragedy for one who had dedicated much of his life to the study of the waves. His body was recovered with the help of the okenumi, but a key component of his armor was lost.    The Wave Guard was a metal pauldron with a leather strap colored a pale blue. It derived its name from the dark blue tint to the metal, which housed Irum infused with both liquid and light magic. Svante II was not attuned to liquid, but was to light. The use of liquid was more symbolic than practical while he used the light essence in combat. Carved into the main body of the metal were depictions of decorative waves that grew fiercer on subsequent plates. Gold and silver were used to add the illusions of shines and shadows, making the piece both functional and decorative. Svante II wore it into all combat.    When his body was found, the pauldron had come apart in the storm and was lost. However, in 1071, Marn divers discovered it caged in coral. Upon realizing they had an artifact of their Dea, they took the pauldron back to shore and petitioned the emperor (baejan in Eoin), Taras Shiroko to keep it at their temple. He had it instead brought to the Gandenye to be inspected by armor experts and historians.    Once its authenticity was established, he allowed the Wave Guard to be kept with the Marn people on the condition that it be kept under close watch and released to the palace when there was need of it. The pauldron currently sits in the holiest room of the main temple dedicated to Svante II.
