Bnan Uning (b'NAHN OON'ing)

Born in 164, Bnan Uning was the son of a coral harvester and her husband, who worked as a small merchant and jeweler. In business since the time first queen of Yzel was crowned in 100, the two were able to provide a middle class life for Bnan and his siblings, an older sister, older brother, and younger brother.    During an excursion with his mother at the age of twelve, Bnan fell into the water and was carried away by a riptide. His mother jumped in to save him but died in the current. Bnan survived and was carried out to sea where he was rescued by a small group of pirates. At first, they were going to ransom him, but they soon realized, upon finding his mother's boat, that the family was not worth trying. Instead, they decided to sell him to a slave merchant in Eoion  On the journey to Eoion, Bnan proved himself to be a fast learner and quite capable with assisting in the maintenance of the ship. The captain took a liking to him and instead of selling the boy, he instead chose to keep him around and train him as an apprentice. Through the years, Bnan learned to fight and pillage, earning the respect of the crew. At twenty-two, he was given command of one of the boats in the captain's small fleet and told to prove himself as a leader.    Bnan decided to expand the activities of the pirates and took the small ship up a river. There, he docked and had his crew steal horses to go deep inland. They raided villages and retreated the boat once done, slaughtering the horses. From there, he led them to raiding coastal villages and merchant boats. The captain was surprised at the success and allowed Bnan to continue. He eventually became famous for his land and sea hybrid style of piracy.    Upon the death of the captain in 194, Bnan fought his under-captains for control of the fleet and won. He continued to attack villages, amassing a larger and larger fleet. At its height, his fleet consisted of two thousand crew members and over one hundred ships. His constant fights with the Yzelian navy kept him at the forefront of the fledgling dynasty's mind.    In 199, he was captured and brought into the court. Instead of executing him, the king at the time gave him the choice of the death or to work under the navy as a mercenary. Bnan took the deal, but secretly continued to raid. Some of his crew left on hearing that he had started working with the navy, but most stayed out of loyalty and for the hefty rewards they could get for attacking other pirates.    Yzel invaded Ulena in 200 and Bnan's fleet was called in to attack coastal and more inland towns. These raids made him and his crew heroes of the eventual victory within Yzel and despised monsters among the former Ulenans and their allies. After the war ended, the fleet was rewarded extremely well and Bnan decided to retire with the earnings. However, infighting among the fleet he was trying to leave kept him in charge to keep them together until 204. At age of forty, Bnan fiinally retired and took a job as a consultant for the Yzelian government, assisting them in negotiating contracts with other mercenaries on the seas and land.    In 228, at the age of sixty-four, he was killed in a carriage accident while traveling between Leowit and Padenet. Some believe that his death was an assassination, revenge from those he had wronged during his days of piracy. Others state that it was simply an accident and nothing more. The truth has never been found. His body was handed over to the fleet he founded, which had grown to 500 ships, and he was buried at sea.
