Kryros burrow society

Given the modest size of Kryros societal and cultural variety is relatively limited. Despite the presence of minor enclaves and remnants of other ethnic groups, most inhabitants are part of what is called the burrow society. The burrow society flourishes in small underground city-states called warrens or burrows. These warrens are governed by their guilds and shaped by the diverse origins of their inhabitants which conform to their society.
Emerging from clearly distinct origins and a desire to leave their past full of mistakes, they coalesce into a non-uniform cultural mixture with different languages and blended dialects. As the mentioned elements are not uniformly intermingled within each population each city is different from the others. Nonetheless, they share a feeling of kinship acknowledging that all cities were born from the same dream: to reignite society in a new beginning, free of the burdens of their past.
There are several distinctions between property, existing personal property, guild property, and city property. The core component of burrow society is the guild property, used and administrated by the guilds for the sake of the city. Except for children or those unable to work, every person in the cities belongs to one guild related to their craft. Some typical guilds, present in almost every city, are:
  • The Caretaker Guild is responsible for the welfare of those unable to fend for themselves, such as children, the elderly, or the sick.
  • The Hunters Guild is comprised of those who venture into perilous terrains, both for exploration or exotic resource gathering.
  • The Sapper Guild is entrusted with constructing new tunnels and chambers and overseeing mines.
  • The Garneder Guild is tasked with tending to botanical gardens and farms, key for basic sustenance.
  • The Crafter Guild is composed of artisans who turn raw materials into goods and tools.
  • The Engineer Guild is composed of architects and experts who design structures and machinery.
  • The Urban Guild is responsible for constructing and allocating dwellings and other edifices.
Regardless of the number or specific composition of guilds they have the authority and responsibility to ensure the correct stewardship of their assets and members. The Council of the Guilds is the typical governing body of a city, a parliament composed of guild representatives that arbitrates disputes between guilds and refines the laws to harmonize the diverse needs of the city.

Before the joining, while dwarves were more technologically advanced than goblins and neanderthals they were not as advanced as they are today. Nowadays, the burrow society has developed a technological level akin to the first part of the XVIII century. Since the discovery by the neandertal scientist Omorkes Erke Sapper of Heat Crystal , trains are being developed over the burrows, connecting them more extensively than ever before.

Foods & Cuisine

They cook with the resources they have available. As a meat source, they raise chickens due to their productivity and low food requirements while also obtaining eggs. They also raise a few cows for milk production. The larger base of their cuisine is vegetables, as they grow plenty of wheat, barley, onions, carrots, lettuce, mushrooms, and beans. They also grow fruits like grapes, apples, peaches, nectarines and pears as well as they collect honey.

Coming of Age Rites

Typically, the inhabitants of the burrows are considered adults when they are no longer under the care of their parents or the Caretaker Guild and join the guild as full-fledged members. Before that, they typically expend several years as apprentices.

Ideals

Courtship Ideals

Altought the dwarves used to have intricate systems of courtship and arranged marriages such structure is fading into the past giving way to more free-form views of relationships similar to the ones neandertals and goblins had. Anyways, there are a plethora of different models of courtship and relationships, spanning the continuum between these two approaches.
