Kryros

Kryros is a Bishard world of Island category. It is divided into two starkly differentiated domains, the endless wastes of the east where night doesn't exist, and the glaciers of the west, where the sun is never visible in the perpetual nocturnal sky. Between these extremely inhospitable zones lies the twilight zone, a small haven considered barely hospitable by its inhabitants.

Climate

The Endless Wastes of the East

This region is an arid and scorching expanse. In the vicinity of the Twilight Zone the terrain transitions into a perpetually hot desert while in the eastern regions the temperatures soar to the extreme where water evaporates and very few creatures can actually survive the conditions. Amidst this hellish landscape, there are the remnants of bygone civilizations, beckoning treasure hunters and archaeologists to venture into its depths in pursuit of their buried secrets.

The Glaciers of the West

While the east is hot and bright, the west reigns a freezing darkness, with only a few stars and a perpetual full moon illuminating the sky. While the east part compromises relatively habitable tundras and cold waters the west is full of enormous glaciers that cover ancient cities in an frigid tomb. There, temperatures plummet below -100 Cº making it as inhospitable as the Wates of the East.

The Twilight Zone

Between the extremes, there is a mountainous zone called the Twilight Zone  which is permanently bathed in the light of dawn. While considered inhabitable this interlude is far from an idyllic place that is often hit with violent storms. For this reason, their inhabitants seek refuge from the elements underground, where they build their cities perfectly shielded from the violence of the winds. They often construct vast networks of tunnels that allow for underground travel towards the most important resources and sometimes other cities, but more often than not the only way to trade or get very specific resources is to venture into the outside world.
They build their cities close to the surface, harnessing the sunlight to grow their crops. They dig huge cylindrical holes in the ground of the surface and cover the upper parts with perfectly crafted glass domes, creating massive greenhouses to feed their cities or to create artificial environments.

History

Before the collapse of their universe the inhabitants of Dheurag, a dwarf kingdom composed of small islands, were engulfed in a civil war with each other. Their previous king died without a clear heir and it resulted in a very bloody conflict for power. However, one night the world around them felt silent and the day never came, so they understood that they were punished by their gods. Preachers proclaimed that their petty fights angered the gods and people started faulting their leaders for dooming them all for a throne. The nobility, fearful of the populace started sending messages to their friends in other kingdoms, but they never received a response. In a few months, the aristocracy was deposed and when the war was over, a new light appeared on the horizon.
In the realm of Hyaleon, the goblins and the neanderthals were constantly fighting over territory. The halting of the sun's course shifted their priorities, they were facing the end of the world. Water was becoming scarce, crops were dying and heatstrokes became commonplace. When darkness approached the horizon, they knew that it was a new beginning.
When the two worlds converged, the initial encounter was filled with tension. They didn't know if the others were friends or foes, nor how it was even possible that they were there. In a pivotal moment, a dwarf extended a reassuring smile and extended a hand of friendship, voicing the belief that their convergence was in fact a divine message: a call for a fresh genesis, a chance to embrace a new era free from the mistakes of the past. Thus, at that moment, an alliance was forged, and Kryros was born as a promise of a shared destiny.
