Kryros Dwarves

Kryros dwarves are slightly taller than the average dwarf but still far below the stature of a human. In ages past, when water flowed as liquid across their native land, the Glaciers, these people served as the intrepid navigators of the islands, but nowadays, with much fewer bodies of water, such an era is long gone.

Civilization and Culture

History

In the times before the collapse of their Realm dwarves were the inhabitants of Dheurag, a dwarf kingdom that ruled amongst scattered isles renowned for their gifted navigators and enterprising traders. It was a prosperous nation until the demise of its monarch. His passing without a proper heir plunged the kingdom into a civil war for the throne as several contenders with royal blood claimed it. The ensuing conflict exacted its toll, day by day, especially amongst the common people.
However, one night the very foundations of reality seemed to shatter. The dawn never came, plunging the land into a perpetual night. Also, their communication with other parts of the world was abruptly severed. No one ever again arrived to their lands and no one was able to get out as ships found themselves navigating in circles without any kind of rational explanation. As if the land had become a metaphor, the ominous evergrowing chill mirrored the increased desperation of the dwarves.
Soon, among the clergy voices started to resonate, voices speaking about the retribution of the gods for their vain blood spilling of their own kinsmen. As the discourse gathered strength the fingers of the people pointed the blame on the nobility that instigated the conflict for the throne. The consequence was a revolution against their leaders, looking for the forgiveness of the divine. In the aftermath, a new light breached the horizon as a promise of redemption and with it, new people came. They saw this new arrival as a gift from the heavens, a chance to start anew.

Religion

The traditional dwarven deities are the trinity known as the Three Venerables which embody the virtues of the dwarven people. The first Venerable is the Venerable Sailor, god of the seas and navigation, he is the leader of the gods and because of the current scarcity of navigable waters, he has come to encompass the domains of water, exploration, and discovery. The second Venerable is the Venerable Speaker, a benevolent goddess of the community who rules over all kinds of relationships between peoples like marriages, alliances, trade agreements, and civic duty. Completing the triad, the third Venerable is the Venerable Warrior, the god of honorable fighting, a deity with a clear disdain for mindless violence and cruelty over the vulnerable. He patrons those who draw their blades to defend justice, shield the innocent, and champion just causes. Nowadays despite the lack of institutionalized clergy they not only keep worshiping their gods but also expanded their devotion to the gods of their neanderthal and goblin compatriots.
