Kryros Neanderthals

Neanderthals are the tallest species on the burrows but still below the height of an average human. In the Hyaleon of yore, they were divided between several tribes on the mainland and a few cities on the isles. The tribes of the mainland, the Ezou, were nomadic peoples that thrived on cattle in the steppes, and the Kytre cities on the isles were scholars that relied on agriculture and fishing for food while dedicating their lives to the study of magic.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Characterized by their robust build, Kryros Neanderthals exhibit a unique combination of brawn and brains. While they are not as stocky as dwarves they compensate for it with bigger bodies and thus great strength. While shorter than humans they are far taller than goblins and also taller than dwarves. This physique, coupled with their exceptional resistance to cold climates, has made them formidable explorers of the depths of frigid Glaciers, where their lack of darkvision becomes less important than being able to survive the cold.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Unlike dwarves and goblins, they have no darkvision.

Civilization and Culture

History

In ages past, in the region of Hyaleon, the tribes of the steppe were in constant wars with the goblins while the scholars of the isles isolated themselves. On one fateful day a Kytre astrologist predicted a dire calamity and sent messages to the other cities. As he predicted in a week the sun suddenly stopped in the sky and they sent messages to all the corners of the world. Only the kingdoms of the goblins and the tribes of the steppe answered.
Determined to survive and knowing that they could not face the challenge alone, they worked towards a common front. There were several goblins studying in their cities and were sent back to their homes to convince their people of the direness of the situation. Several Ezou clan leaders were disciples of Kytre teachers, so they were contacted for the same reason. Finally, a truce was set and the plea for unity was honored to find a way to end the crisis. The challenges they faced were immense: crops withered, sealife asphyxiated, the ice melted into violent torrents, and the heat became unbearable. As death from heatstroke loomed on the horizon, as hope dwindled, a beacon of salvation emerged on the horizon in the form of growing darkness on the horizon. A beacon they followed until they meet the Dwarves.

Religion

The Azou and the Kytra has diferent gods. The Azou offered their devotion to a pantheon led by Zifres, the goddess of sun, lightning, and fire, who acquired also the mantle of the goddess of death on the days of calamity. By her side is her lover Gegge, goddess of war and beasts, and her brother Ayen, god of the moon, magic, and secrets. Among the minor deities are Ahe, the goddess of plants; Tize, the god of fertility; and Gyun, the god of crafts.
On the other hand, the Kytra centered their faith around two gods of magic, Lyke and Izike. Lyke is the goddess of knowledge, truth, and reason. In contrast, Izike, the god of passion and sexuality, celebrates the vitality of chaos and emotion. These two deities are not understood as opposites but complementary forces in an intricate balance of two fundamental aspects to comprehend the complexities of existence.
