Iola was one of the latter wives of Fremiss the Vibrant.  Originally married for love, the couple had a falling out relatively quickly.  After a few years, Fremiss barely spent more time with her than it took to sire a child.
The commoners speculated that Iola made a curse against her husband out of spite.  It was noticed that the three half-dragon children she birthed for her husband had far less prestigious deeds than most of Fremiss' other children.  Some believe the curse is connected to this.
