Session 1: The Tome of Ages Report

General Summary

Sonaranth tasked the party with retrieving the Tome of Ages from Dolaris, so the party headed off in that direction.  Over the course of the three day journey, they shared a few tidbits about themselves with each other; Minverix mentioned that she works in the The Sapphire Library as a scribe, she has a white scale on her side, and that she loves Sonaranth as a patron.  Gurthung told the party that she’s 20, that she wants to make a name for herself as a bounty Hunter, but so far she’s only been able to pick up minor fetch quests, and that she wants to be feared and revered, but she’s too squishy.  (The party also discovered that she hums off key in her sleep)  Prrtz shared that they are a world-renowned scholar (not really), who has set up a course on reading to not understand with the help and funding of their patron, an Old One.
When the party finally arrived in the village, they made a beeline for the Temple of Oce, where they wandered through the fountain room and into the infirmary.  There they found a single priest caring for a patient, and a dedicate learning from the priest.  They quickly irritated the priest by asking personal questions about the patient, but were able to get information from the dedicate (via a combination of sign and writing) about the richest guy in town, Aswarr, though they left before finding out where Aswarr lives.  Luckily, the tavern keeper Frynga was able to direct them to the proper location.
At Aswarr’s house, Gurthang knocked on the door repeatedly, but received no answer.  Gurthang and Minverix decided to peek in the windows, and Gurthang set off an alarm that caused Sentie, the village’s soldier, to come running. Sentie decided that the party was likely trying to break in to the house, and was therefore full of ne’er-do-wells.  She told them off, and then headed back towards the city hall.  As she left, Minverix spotted a flash of red in the bushes and dove after it, only to just miss the tip of a fox’s tail.
The team piddled around for a bit, and knocked on a  nearby door, disturbing quite a few booby traps, but not setting off an alarm.  After a while, though, they headed to the city hall, where they once again spoke with a glaring Sentie, and learned about a book collecter named Thrinain from the village’s administrative leader. The party headed off towards Thrinain’s house, with Sentie following close behind.  They discovered that the door to the house was slightly ajar, and no one seemed to answer when they knocked or called into the house.  Minverix stepped inside to pick up some papers, enraging Sentie.  But the rage was quickly channeled elsewhere when Minverix mentioned that the door was already ajar, and Sentie traced a spell onto a map she was carrying, before running off to the Temple.  The party followed after her, and discovered that the patient that the priest was caring for was Thrinain.  Gurthang spoke with the dedicate and learned that the issue was that Thrinain was unconscious and no one knew why. Prrtz used mind touch to go into Thrinain’s mindscape, and then used their ability to read to not understand to decipher the strange Draconic symbols that covered his mindscape.
Then the party returned to Thrinain’s house, entered, and began searching in ernest for the Tone of Ages.  Prrtz raced through the house searching for a stack of books that they had seen in their vision, Gurathang began grabbing any blue books they could find, and Minverix followed a trail of loose papers, gathering them as she went.  The team was finally able to determine a possible location for the Tome, but before they could do any closer investigation, they heard a sound from a nearby room.  Prrtz shushed the team, just in time for them to hear the sound of a window creaking open.  The team burst into the room just in time to see a man in a green tunic, with a leather-bound blue book tucked under his arm.  The man turned around and saw the party, and then, in the blink of an eye, leapt out the window and vanished.
