Chromatic Guard Military Formation in Scalespiral | World Anvil

Chromatic Guard

A set of five elite guards that protect the Chief General of the Orange Legion.  Not technically a part of the command hierarchy of the Legion, they answer directly to the Chief General and serve as both his bodyguards and his elite tactical force.
In addition to defending the Chief General, they also defend the secrets of the Legion and serve as a safeguard for knowledge in case the Chief General dies without passing knowledge on to his successor.  They are magically bound by geas, and can only speak the secrets to the current holder of the Chief General position.

Composition

Manpower

An elite five-member team: one rogue, one wizard, one warrior, one ranger, and one sorcerer

Equipment

Each member of the chromatic guard is outfitted in draconic scales, each in a different color and design that benefits their role.
  • The rogue is outfitted in a tunic made of tiny green scales, designed to shift the force of a stab and also patterned in such a way that breaks up the rogue's outline, making it easier for them to fade into the shadows.
  • The wizard is outfitted in a cloak covered in palm-sized blue scales, designed to reflect and redirect any magic that they come into contact with
  • The warrior is outfitted in hardy mail made of deep brown scales, designed to protect from the strongest of blows
  • The ranger is outfitted in sturdy leather with bright bronze scales reinforcing the major weak points that need to be protected.
  • The sorcerer is outfitted in a bright plate armor made of golden scales, designed to draw attention

Logistics

Recruitment

The chromatic guard is selected from the best of the best within the legion, although they are never selected from the command structure.  Each member is recruited as soon as possible upon the death of the previous holder of the position and serves for the remainder of their life.  Before they can join the chromatic guard, a member of the Legion is told that there is an important position within the Legion that they are being considered for, but that in order to take the position they must be prepared to give up their life outside of the Legion, and must bind themselves to the geas.  Because of the fact that the Legion only takes true believers and the fact that only the best of the best are considered for recruitment into the guard, few who are offered the opportunity turn it down, even though they must accept without truly knowing what they are agreeing to.  Nevertheless, no member that has been indicted into the chromatic guard has ever expressed displeasure with the position once they were part of it.
