Session 25 Notes
Recorded March 22, 2025
Our thanks to Ben for his extra effort with the notes.
General Summary
- Boris and John go to Boris’ residence near Miskatonic and they call the hotel to leave a message for Cillian and the Doc.
- They leave the message that they are going to stay in Miskatonic, they are staying there. The message says something about sketching Cowles that doesn’t make any sense.
- The Doc and Cillian go over the Cowles' Lecture Notes and Daniel’s notes and we feel like we have a good copy of what was in the lecture.
- The doc specifically looks for information on the Cowles' Glass Slide we have from the notes of the lecture.
- The slides are referred to an expedition into the Australian Outback, confirming the slide was taken in Australia.
- The photographs were all taken by Arthur MacWhirr in 1921 while in the northwest in a region known as the Great Sandy Desert.
- As we go to sleep for the night, Cillian has a horrible dream, finding himself eventually in a dark alley, night has fallen and there is a lot of thick fog. The smoke of his cigarette mixes with the haze. He feels very solitary as he is watching and waiting at this post. He doesn’t know what he is supposed to be watching for because of the fog.
- He hears a noise in the distance, a thump, perhaps mortar fire. There is something enormous in the fog, the thumps always in front of him flee.
- He rounds a corner, see something horrible, but he wakes before he sees what it was. He is drenched in sweat and feels like he is hunted. He has difficulty getting back to sleep.
- The doc and Cillian head toward Emerson Imports and as we are leaving the Doc receives a message from the Concierge who said a young woman left a message for him early this morning.
- The two are startled when a voice says asks what the Doc is holding.
- The voice belongs to the man, Lt. Martin Poole, who is trying to see the note.
- He said he was trying to let us know that he has been taken off the case.
- He says that some idiot went to the BMV and the employees went to Captain Walter Robson, and he came to Poole’s office in the middle of the night and took all the case paperwork.
- The plate came back to some idiot who had his car stolen.
- He insinuates that the Captain could be looking for us and that finding us may be hazardous for us.
- We switch back to Arkham and check in with John and Boris.
- They head to the liberal arts building to try and catch Anthony Cowles in his office first thing before he gets into class.
- They find Cowles in his office. He has wild gingery hair is all over the place. He’s a little portly, but not too bad.
- He smiles and welcomes them to the office.
- They ask him when his lecture was and if they spoke with Jackson Elias.
- He said he didn’t, but he says that the lecture was earlier in January.
- Boris shows him the sketch of the thing that was on Larkin’s chest.
- Cowles looks at it and says that it reminds him about the stories of cthulhu.
- Some story that was written that has some overlaps with the topic of the death cults.
- He doesn’t recognize the symbol and thinks it looks like flower.
- He said that he studied the Cult of the Sand Bat.
- He doesn’t seem to have spoken with any other people about this stuff.
- He does crate a Sketch of the Sign of the Sand Bat.
- These folks would make poison and hit victims with a stick with bat teeth and the poison until they died.
- Switching back to the New York crew, and follow them to Emerson Imports. The building is along the Hudson River and it is a huge warehouse.
- Doc and Cillian go in to ask for a supervisor to see if we can find anything out. They look for some sort of supervisor.
- Floyd spots a man in the warehouse that was wearing a suit and has his sleeves rolled up. This guy is a little older and is in the middle of a heated discussion with a guy with a warehouse.
- The guy looks very good for his age and introduces himself as Arthur Emerson and gives us a moment of his time.
- He seems to recognize the name Jackson Elias and remembers giving him a card.
- Says Jackson was in here about a week ago.
- He does say that he knows Silas N'Kwane and warns us that we don’t want to have anything to do with him.
- Says there is something about the guy that he doesn’t like.
- The items he imports in for Silas come from Kenya.
- Silas definitely gives him the creeps, but he is pretty sure that Jackson went to the Ju-Ju House after leaving Emerson Imports.
- Cillian notices that there are a lot of the dock workers are staring at us, definitely watching us.
- It looks like Jackson potentially went and saw Silas the day before he was killed.
- Jumping back to the Arkham crew, they just decide to get back on the train to New York.
- Doc and Cillian sit down in a coffee shop to wait for their meeting before going into Harlem.
- We carefully make our way into Harlem making our way toward the theater to meet Shosenberg.
- We arrive as close to 1230 as we can and we see her standing outfront impatiently tapping her foot.
- She sees us and meets us halfway and leads us into the theater.
- Once we are inside she pulls the door closed and locks it.
- We do see people moving around on the inside, cleaning and housekeeping as the theater is not open.
- The house is empty, save for one African American woman.
- Shosenberg says that she was able to get the meeting with Millie Adams.
- She took precautions to try and avoid being overheard.
- Millie Adams is cautious, but seems to approve of the Doc.
- She says that Hilton Adams became concerned several years ago. She says that they were patrolling the community because of strange disappearances. They used to meet at Teddy's (Coffee House/Saloon) and when the mutilations started it was all different. Hilton had gone to the library and thought that the mutilations may have been related to an African cult.
- The police were not happy with Hilton and his friends were patrolling and looking into the mutilations so they ‘encouraged’ him to stop.
- All of his friends eventually abandoned him, but he refused to stop.
- He kept a journal that he marked with a long strip of red cloth.
- The night before he was arrested Hilton was talking about a place called the Ju Ju House with a man by the name of Needham Johnson.
- She said that the knife he had when he was arrested he never carried with him.
- The police searched the apartment after Hilton’s arrest and took his journal, his knife, and the red fabric.
- As we get up to leave we both hear thud and a man falls through the curtain and he is a very dark skinned african american guy that we both saw at the docks.
- He very clearly sees us, calls out “uchafu” and ducks back out of sight.
- We ended the session there.
Session 25:
A Trip to the Theatre
We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of the infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far.
