Eglentyne Torchlight
Ambassador, Councilor Appointee (a.k.a. The Council's Councilor, The Gentle Pirate)
Overview
Hailing from Keoland's major port city of Gradsul to the far east, Eglentyne is a previously unknown and lesser member of House Rhola. Her noble house is one of the oldest and most important in Keoland, able to trace more than half of those who've sat the Lion Throne to its line.
Personality
So far her behavior in Saltmarsh has been marked by seemingly genuine displays of supposedly royal contrition, a deep curiosity for the region, and a polite grace towards all. Few Salts in town believe it.
She is clearly well informed, politically savvy, and confident. To many that makes her dangerous, no matter how nice she is. To further support this fear, a small detachment of the elite Lion Guard are at her disposal--a sign of royal support not even the Viscount or Duke are afforded.
Beliefs
Gradsul is one of the most populous and prosperous cities in the Kingdom of Keoland, directly connected to the capital of Niole Dra by the Sheldomar River, so Eglentyne's former world is as different as night and day from Saltmarsh.
She hails from a background of privilege, power, politics, and purpose--things she believes in. Despite being a minor member of House Rhola, she carries herself with the knowledge that her family is an integral and key piece of the Keoish puzzle.
Endeavors
A different puzzle for all, however, is why she is in Saltmarsh at all. Not Seaton with the Duke and not Burle with the Viscount.
Instead, the freshly anointed and first ever Merchant Ambassador of Salinmoor has taken up residence alongside Manistrad Copperlocks at the former Punnid Mansion. Eglentyne has also been granted the rather grating position of a seat on the Town Council, though so far her presence in council meetings has been a study in benign pragmatism rather than the heavy hand of Niole Dra like everyone expected.
Speculation abounds about the dark horse. Salts are bristling at the idea of being turned into the next Founder metropolis, while others assume she is here to squeeze the Salts, miners, merchants, and smugglers alike.
