Eshor (ESH-er)

Eshor was the original homeland of the Elves and Orcs. For millennia they coexisted. The Elves created longstanding, decaying, structures and the Orcs created intricate ecological systems throughout the area. A series of natural portals to the Feywild gave the territory of Eshor a mild climate and a rich soil. Though it exists in the far north of the world of Salea, ecologically it is more similar to the southern coasts of Epron   For millennia the native Orcs and Elves lived in harmony; the Elves building giant, decaying, structures, and the Orcs building temporary settlements based on the changing seasons in the artificially warm airs of Eshor. This all changed in 455 when the so-called 'noble races' of the south invaded and conquered Eshor.   The human king, Tarren Undermere I conquered the lands of Eshor for himself as a kingdom after a lengthy war and his children ruled until The Great War.

Disbandment

The Kingdom of Eshor was conquered by Morethalas and the Republic of Oskye] during the The Great War. The territory of the kingdom was officially ceded to the government in @Lylaenatalos under the Treaty of Abderaliana and created the nation of Morethalas in 1181.

Demography and Population

At its height, Eshor was home to about one in ten of Salea's population. In 1176, it had a population of around 87 million. Any and all races lived within Eshor's borders. There was a strict social categorization between the so-called 'Noble Races' (Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, and Halflings), and the 'Other Races' which includes everyone else. Orcs in particular were looked down upon as dangerous and bloodthirsty and were often the focus of city guard attention.   Only members of the "Noble Races" coud become Eshorian nobility.   The demography was 80% 'Noble Races', and 20% 'Other'. Broken down as follows:
  • 32% Human
  • 28% Elf/Half-Elf
  • 10% Halfling
  • 7% Dwarf
  • 3% Gnome
Gender and sexuality was considered incidental in Eshor. Individual races placed cultural or linguistic importance on gender (see Dwarven Naming Conventions), but succession was determined by birth order, not gender.

Territories

Eshor comprised the territory of Morethalas, Eshor proper, and the Northern Expanse.

Military

The military of Eshor was gathered from recruits and conscripts from its vassal cities.   After the murder of Queen Aila by the Panserbjorn in the Northern Expanses in 1171, Morethalas openly rebelled against the crown and the military invaded and occupied the territory. The army closed many of the gates to the Feywild by systemic deforestation.

Foreign Relations

Eshor was bordered to the south and west by Epron and by Kingdom of Oskye to the southeast.

Agriculture & Industry

Eshor's claim to fame was it's highly arable land focused on its southeastern side and border. The LINKTrimuvirate grows and produces agricultural goods including fine wines, beers, pastries, and stable goods.

Infrastructure

The Kingdom of Eshor ws responsible for the creation and preservation of the nation's roads. Most of them are well-kept and safe especially the main trade routes between LINKTreuham and the LINKTriumvirate, and the lessor routes between the Triumvirate and LINKLaststall, and Ironcall. Most were created with packed earth or paved stone.
