Our story begins in Eshor. A nation on the northwestern tip of the continent of Isera. A bright spot on the cold northern coasts of Isera warmed by strange winds flowing out of Morethalas, the Elven homeland. Long ago this was a land full of Orcish bands, tribes, and nations living alongside the forested Elves. Then came the Humans, Halflings, Gnomes, and Dwarves; followed soon after by the other races. They conquered the lands of Isera and now the Orcs live in dedicated areas set aside by treaty and compact. Tarren Undermere, a human warrior, broke from his army and set up the tiny nation of Eshor in the northwestmost corner of their new continent. For four hundred years the Undermere Kings, humans descended from those very first explorers, have ruled over Eshor. For the past forty-five years, King Tarquin Undermere has ruled over a tremulous peace. Around fifty years ago Morethalas, and its capital Lylaenatolos, rose up against Eshor in an attempt at secession. King Tarlos Undermere X fought them back into the forests and married his son, Tarquin, to their ruler’s daughter, Aila (Eye-eee-lah). Tarquin and Aila seemed like a dream to the scarred land, a young beautiful couple totally in love. Binding their warring lands together. A half century later, however, tensions have flared between the lovers. Aila has fled to the remote keep of Fool’s Last Stand, as far away from her husband as she can be. Elven nationalists, seeing a symbolic break in the union of Eshor and Lylaenatolos, have begun to rise up again. Protests and speakers are in the squares of cities throughout Eshor urging the Elves to return to their homelands and escape the rule of the other races. And from another corner comes a further challenge. The Orcs have laid a charge against the Undermere dynasty. They assert that the Undermere’s used and abused Orcish tribal land during the war against the elven rebellion fifty years ago. After decades of legal proceedings, the Orcs have finally been granted an audience with The Impartial Host, a council of the 'Noble' races that act as the only check on the Undermere royalty. And through this unrest sits King Tarquin Undermere. Abandoned by his wife and beset on all sides by unrest in his kingdom.
