Coral Palace

Coral Palace or Ngad i zerib Ferengrimgar (literally: the sea-flower fortress), is the realm and palace of the God of the Sea Feren (god) in the Zeribian spirituality.

Description

The Coral Palace is located deep in the bottom of the sea, out of reach for any mortals. The palace is built out of living coral, and it has innumerable twisting towers, that reach far above the ocean floor. The floors of the palace and lined with shiny nacre. The palace is crowded by the Sea Folk, the servants of Feren, and other creatures of the sea who work as his spies.

Spiritual Significance

The Coral Palace is also the underworld of the Zeribian spirituality. Zeribians practice burial to the sea (See: Afterlife on the West Island), and believe that the spirits continue to live safely guarded by the spirits of water near the Coral Palace, until they are chosen to be reborn as mortals. Some noble families prefer to store their bodies in family crypts, to encourage the souls to keep their relationships with the house, and to help the soul find back to their relatives if the gods chose to send them back.

Afterlife

The souls of the dead send to the Coral Palace have their own pre-determined places. The commoner spirits work the fields of the Sea God, helping to feed the sea folk. The noble spirits on the other hand wait in the Coral Palace, until they get to be reborn.   It is believed that the action of the person when living will influence their treatment in the afterlife. Good deeds and obedience can guarantee easy and painless life, while someone who disrespects the gods by not following the ritual purity laws can be sent away from the Palace, and be forced to live alone on the mercy of the wild spirits.
