Birth of the Third Cohort
The Conflict
Prelude
At the end of the War of West Island and Arensandea letter was send to the Third Cohort of the army of West Island. Receiving the letter, however, a part of the Cohort refused to leave because of the fear of loosing all the loot they had collected thus far, and also because they didn't want to become responsible for the crimes they had committed so far during the war.
Deployment
Because the captain disagreed with strongest part of the soldiers, the other officers desided to take take Captain hostage, and continue operations anyway.
The Engagement
At first the rebellion of the Third Cohort was bloodless. The captain wasn't given a chance to fight, and all the others were threatened to stay in order and not flee. But during the following days, weeks and months when the winter forced them to stop raiding and start to eat up the savings, many of the former soldiers began to miss home. Each time a Republic's officer came near the camp and tried to convince them returning home, some decided to flee. Some were caught, and killed brutally.
Outcome
The main part of the Cohort never returned home. The culture of needing to discourage others from fleeing lead to the Cohort turning to a true military organisation that was not afraid to kill or torture.
Aftermath
Because of the Captain initially vted for leaving, he was later kept in captive conditions and never regained his power. This is why he later fled and lead some other important officers to being killed as well. He however left behind an item belong to his ancestors, that enabled the cohort to later find and kill him as their revenge.
