Lapta (Cricket)

Lapta is a bat and ball game played by the Snow Dwarves of the Sabrelands, and is a popular activity during the Igra sports festival.

Execution

Players are split into two teams: runners and throwers, and the two teams line up at a right angle to each other on a flat plane of snow.
The runners are each equipped with a bat made from Willow Wood, and the throwers hold cloth balls that have been drenched in Icecap Ale.
At the sound of the Bronze Lur, the runners race across the field while the throwers cast Spark on their balls and launch them at the runners.
The runners can use their bats to try to try to hit the balls as far away as possible, but this will slow them down (as will diving into the snow to extinguish any flames that have caught.)
The runners try to run from the starting side of the pitch ("gorod") to the other ("kon"), and back again without being hit by the ball.
The teams then swap roles and race again.
After each team has ran, the three fastest players from each team are the final runners, while their remaining team members (normally accompanied by the spectators) act as the throwers.
The winner is the runner who makes it back to "gorod" in this final (considerably more deadly) "heat".
