Bloodsalt
For many decades, there have been "savage humanoids" in Freeport, but their numbers were never great. Primarily there were the half-orcs and orcs, most of them having arrived as mercenaries, thugs, sailors, pirates, and even workers for the Lighthouse of Drac.
For citizens of Freeport, where most people are tolerated until they prove themselves intolerable, what was once a guardedly acceptable intermingling has become a full blown bazaar of the bizarre. The savage races have generally behaved themselves at least as well as the more bloodthirsty pirates who call the city home, anyway. Eventually, though, faced with cramped conditions and the threat of riots in Scurvytown and Drac's End, the Captains' Council created a new ward, outside the walls of the Eastern District, a curve of crude shanties and tents for the humanoids.
At the center of the new ward, the Wizards’ Guild built a compound to house alchemical facilities. Eventually, the chemicals poured into the ground left the place scarred and dull red in color; someone coined the name “Bloodsalt,” and the name stuck. Even walking down the street was a hazard; in addition to the clan wars, one’s next step could always punch through the thin earth into a pocket of acid or flaming chemicals. Bloodsalt soon became the most violent place in Freeport; orcs and goblinoids clashed nightly over old grudges and new animosities. And as long as they stay mostly in their own district and keep their violence to themselves, most folks are willing to turn a blind eye.
