Rampart Sooviij

Description

Rampart’s daily attire is their armor, with the Sooviij family crest engraved across the gleaming breastplate. Having attended military camp, as most in their family do, they’re among the best Junior Cadets in the Dragonsguard and take their duty seriously. They always give off an air of confidence and competence, and will never admit to their intense fear of mice.   When off duty, they’re often smoking a pipe containing substances not technically allowed on campus. They have a habit of blowing smoke into the faces of people they dislike.

Family

The Sooviij family are rivals of the Burninghammers and have a long, storied history with the military. Like the Burninghammers, they also pressure their new generations to follow the family line with military service and a Lorehold, Red/Chaos education.   When Rampart was a child, their parents were murdered outside an opera house. Griff’s uncle is wanted for the murder, but told Griff that Bjorn is the true murderer. The Strixhaven files on Rampart’s parents stop abruptly during their third year.

Year 1 Involvement

Rampart started off antagonistic with most of the F Squad. In the first week, they blamed Gary for tattling on their smoking habit, agitated a territorial Griff by entering Krokt Tower uninvited, and warned Mistake to stay away from Griff, particularly if he was anything like his uncle.   Upset at how Rampart was treating their friends, Shelley started a petition to have Rampart removed from the Dragonsguard. Few people were willing to sign it, and after hearing all the good things people had to say about Rampart, Shelley decided to become their friend instead.   Shelley’s attempts were almost ruined with the Heist at the Captain's Manor. Rampart was the Dragonsguard on duty the F Squad had to fight to escape. After subduing them, The Squad fed Rampart a flower from Thorne to make them forget the encounter, but Rampart was still left with injuries and a vendetta against whoever bested them.   In apology, the F Squad made a care package for them while they were recovering. Once Dean Imbraham returned and the Squad was outed, they apologized to Rampart in person. The apology was sincere enough that Rampart forgave them for this transgression, though their rivalry with Griff and animosity toward Gary remained.   Griff sought to improve things by inviting Rampart to the Burninghammer Winter Gala. Bjorn rescinded the invite, but Rampart still arrived and remained hidden nearby with a private airship. They and Griff spoke, and Rampart was able to secretly get two lovers to safety.   Gary had less success. Rampart monopolized all the first-year course texts in the library to stop Gary’s ability to study. They gladly shared the books with “Garth”, however, not knowing it was Gary in disguise. Rampart developed a crush on the fake person, and when Gary confessed to the duplicity, Rampart took the heartbreak personally.   That Gary’s fractal mascot takes the form of a mouse is not likely to help matters any.   By the end of the year, Rampart had become good coworkers and colleagues with Shelley, and had settled into a friendlier rivalry with Griff. The two parted ways with plans for a friendly duel next year.
