Description

Always one for a dramatic entrance (and exit), Professor Verelda Lang's preferred mode of transportation is the vines of Witherbloom College. She rarely blinks her luminescent yellow eyes, and compliments her vine-like skin with clothing made of plants.
She’s a strict and firm professor. She has no patience for students who fall out of line, and will stare them down before she writes their names into her ledger. She does not read sarcasm well. Her classroom in the Witherbloom swamps is made of vines that grow to enclose the classroom and disperse after the end of class.

Year 1 Involvement

Lang taught the required course, Physiologies of Magical Beasts. On the first day, she was critical of Koss for not having brought the book and reading along with Shelley.
Partway through the year, Mistake spoke with Lang after class about non-magical means of healing. Mistake claimed it was simply because she couldn’t perform the magic needed to heal, and wanted to make sure she had a way to help people. In truth, she’d heard about the corrupted eldritch balm from Aurora and wanted to know more without arousing suspicion.
Believing Mistake’s lie, Lang explained more about the balm, where the corruption stems from, and showed the one vial of uncorrupted balm she had remaining. Once it was gone, she said, Strixhaven had nothing to take its place.
Lang’s ledger has been seen in Captain Dapplewing's care as the two pass notes to each other about various students. The ledger was also present after the zone of truth, when Lang used what she’d written as evidence that the F Squad should face punishment for their acts.
Professor Lang is among the best healers on campus, and nursed Thorne back to health after he nearly died defending Krokt Tower from the Owlbear Rampage. She also spent weeks tending to Shelley as they recovered from alcohol withdrawal. It’s largely for these reasons that Mistake decided not to pour ink on Lang’s ledger at the end of the year.
