South Web

You ever see pictures of those crazy bazaars in outer space where people spend their days haggling away at mediocre products that are insanely expensive? Well imagine that, but with a gun pointed at you wherever you look. South Web is primarily known as a merchant district with all the wares a post-apocalyptic traveler will want and need in their travels. Food, clothes, drugs, guns, prosthetics, mutated pets; you name it, it’s probably being sold somewhere in South Web. Of course, with so much competition the merchants all compete with each other for customers. But with the scarcity of resources in the wasteland, this has actually resulted in incredible price hikes at every store as each merchant uses deception and underhanded tactics to misle customers out of a fair deal. Walking along the cracked highway, you’ll find a mix of large establishments from the old world repurposed with several merchants’ storefronts inside as well as plenty of smaller tents for the up and coming salesmen. If you’re a tourist in the area, there isn’t much in terms of scenery since the grass and trees in the area have all either decayed or been removed by mankind. The area is quite arid with the occasional dust storm appearing every now and then. Trading boats from the nearby harbor and the constant influx of supply-seeking travelers keep the highway lively year-round. Long story short, South Web is a paradise for apocalyptic goods if you’ve got sharp senses and a bit of luck on your side. Just don’t piss off the guy selling you the improvised explosives, otherwise he won’t be the only thing you’ve set off.

Demographics

All types of humans and freaks can be found here. Also, don't be surprised if you see some pets walking around with a couple of extra limbs and a vicious stare; they're all friendly... probably

Government

South Web is in a constant state of semi-anarchy. On one hand, the bustling crowds around stores and the irregularities found in prices give off a sense of anarchy. However, the merchants also consider themselves a loosely-related family who will protect their own if they feel a traveler is causing trouble.

Defences

Most of the merchants have a means to defend themselves with guns, machetes, explosives, you name it. For bigger caravan trips outside of South Web, they rely on mercenaries from North Web to defend them in exchange for goods and services.

Industry & Trade

South Web is a huge commercial hub filled with all sorts of goods from throughout the apocalyptic world. However, travelers will need to keep their wits about them as they shop since the merchants here are notorious for swindling their customers and raising prices astronomically while competing with each other for whatever few resources are left in the world. The nearby harbor also sees makeshift boats bringing in goods and people on a daily basis. There is a local currency shared by South and North Web that most shops accept, while others only barter for goods.

Infrastructure

Destroyed suburban homes turned into makeshift hovels make up the east and south of the district. Hovels can range from a single wealthy merchant occupying a small home, to packs of merchants coexisting in a larger house. The 404 highway has a mixture of tent and wood shops as well as restructured older establishments from before the apocalypse.

History

After the end of the world, people took shelter in the devastated suburban homes in the east and south of the district and called it home. They eventually noticed the activity of travelers along the 404 highway and decided to repurpose the various destroyed stores along the highway for their own pawn shops.

Geography

The most recognizable landmark here is the 404 Highway that acts as the “Silk Road” of trade in the district. Aside from a few craters and tree stumps though, the land is relatively flat with no remarkable features. Travelers usually orient themselves based on the larger shops along the highway.
