The Gift of Letters - A Seachosen Myth
The language of the Eversea Archipelago, a twelve-letter alphabet that uses accents and embellishments to form its forty-eight distinct sounds, was given, according to legend, by a massive sea monster that, when rescued from a net by a poor pearl diver, thanked him by using its ink to print the twelve core letters of the language onto his arm.
Cultural Reception
The method of teaching the Archipelago language is based on this legend, with squid ink, clay slip, or fruit inks used to write the letters on the skin of a child's arm so they can review and sound out the letters for themselves.
