Brida

"I'd never seen so many people so crowded all trying to fit into the same city, how do people deal with this."

Ryan's journal

Demographics

Very diverse and sprawling city, this metropolis is mostly home to the Annies who enjoy the tropical weather that the warm air brings, with it's warm winters and blistering hot summers. The city is divided into seven different sections, each associated with the seven hills that come from the feet of the highlands to the west.

City Levels

The houses of this section are built using aspects of the hills in their architecture due to the easy cooling it gives.

Government

Before Atla

by Yesh10x
Old Brida capital building   Before the formation of the Polaris Kingdom, Brida was the capital city of the Kingdom of Albany. With its now ancient capital building being built atop the highest peak within the city's borders to show the Kingdoms powers and achievements. The formation of the Polaris Kingdom, and the switch of the capital to Almne, didn't affect the city's political standing much during the earlier years of the Polaris Kingdom, being an almost secondary capital to the city. But, as Almne began to grow more as a political superpower, Brida's influence over the kingdom, politically, began to dwindle.

Modern Era

Gara Polaris, A Former Duke of Brida   One of the few cities without a representative for the royal family. Due to Brida's political history with Rhydar, and its proximity to the capital, the King and Queen make routine visits to the city to meet with Brida nobility within the city. Along with this, the "Duke of Brida", or heir to the Polaris throne, is the main head official of the city when the Queen or King are not present.

Defences

The city gets plenty of protection from the Kymba military as well as special Atlan night guards that work within the city. With this the city's many natural barriers as well, the city is one of the best protected in Rhydar.

THE REGULARS

The city also has its own special police force, known only as "The Regulars". Dressed in normal attire and usually hiding special military grade Swyns and weapons under their clothing, these special soldiers are specially trained to deal with the hectic and densely packed streets of the city.

Industry & Trade

Trading is the city's main source of income, with its many ports building a reputation. Being in a very prime location as well, the first city when entering through the Anniy River, gives the city control over much of the commerce and product that makes it into Rhydar.

Infrastructure

A modern Rhydan marvel, this city is filled with the latest in technological advancements as well as plenty of riches. Accepting goods of all kinds to one of its seven ports running along the Anniy River. Each of the ports are specifically designed for certain merchant, trading, and cargo ships. With the ports highest up the river being for goods going to the capital section of the city. The lowest ports, closest to the ocean, are for the unknown, low reputation merchants who typically trade within the crowded lower sections of the city.

Assets

The city is filled with many merchant shops and stands, as well as many permanent shops from people who live and work within the city's borders.

History

Humble Beginnings

Brida wasn't the first city in Rhydar, nor the fastest growing, with the small fishing village being more so a rural area with the much larger city of Koxa at the time being the center, which sits across to Brida on the Anniy strait. With the fall of the then ancient city of Lau, many residents fled up north to Koxa, and subsequently Brida as well. As more Rhydans fled into the region, the once small town began to grow into a large suburb outside of Koxa, and eventually a city of rival size to its neighbor.

Industrial

With the discovery of Remnant, and the explosion of new technologies that came with it, cities became of larger importance in Rhydan culture, being the centers for the creation of Remnant technologies and innovations. One of the biggest ones was Brida. With its rival city to the south, Koxa, not adopting this new industrial lifestyle that the Rhydans had becoming more accustom to Brida opened its doors wide open for this industrialization and, with it, the second explosion in its population. The city grew massively over the years, with the abundance of resources that surround the city being a major key to its success in this new age. "The White City" soon grew into the largest in Rhydar and has let go of that title since, even if it's slowed down some of its industrial activities in the past years, getting more so into control the Rhydan market with its many ports and its proximity to the capital.

Architecture

When looking from above you can clearly see the city is split into two main sections, the red roofs and blue roofs. With most of the city blanketed by red roofed buildings, although as you make your way to those last two hills you'll find the roofs shift to the blue end of the spectrum, symbolizing the nobility and wealth of this section of the city. Even though this is the case both of these sections use the same whitewashed stone walls and ceilings, giving the city its synonymous name "The White City".

Geography

The city is located at the eastern edge of the highlands (which is what gives the city its hilly features) where the Anniy River empties into the East Sea. With the city of Koxa being its neighbor to south, being isolated on the island of the same name, it's a prime place when it comes to protection from invaders, which has helped the city prosper so well.

Natural Resources

Though the jungles have dwindles in the centuries since the settlement of Brida, the jungles don't seem to be short of any resources yet for the people who use them for materials.
