Mason
The Mason primarily is a working of stone. Whether that by the simple laying of the stone or even intricate carving of such stone, the mason encompasses a great deal of services relating to constructions of stone. If we consider a basic construction of a stone building, masons of varying rank and purpose would be involved. The roughmason, the lowliest of rank (likely apprentices) would be involved in the construction of foundations and basic constructions such as stone perimeter walls. The layers of setters would be the next rank of mason, those responsible for the placing and setting of the stone material into its desired form. Master Mason, Freemason, or simply Mason in many cases are the highest of rank and possess the greatest skill, being responsible for not just overseeing the construction but preparing the stone that may be in a rough form from the quarry and carving the stone if required.
A Mason would expect to travel for their work. Many settlements, especially those of low population, are liable to not have a single stone building within them and as such, little prospect for work the mason. Large projects such as those of religious institutions, those of wealthy lords and especially of the monarch, provide the greatest wealth of opportunity for a mason to earn coin. Likewise, such projects are the greatest chance that a mason may seek regular employment as such work is not likely to be present throughout the year.
