Kasta's Pass

Kasta's Pass lies within the southern end of the Doric Moutain range, just north of where they meet the Palantar Mountains. The pass has great strategic importance due to it being the most convenient means of foot travel between the western and easter halves of the Grand Duchy of Canyndor. On one side lies the Surcounty of Ilkweir which has great stretches of farmland and pastures, on the other side is the heart of the Grand Duchy in the Surcounty of Canyndor whose side is protected well by the fortress of Partador. The only other means of travel either being up the river Yarrow itself via the mountains passages or a long trip around the north and through the Baneswood (assuming on is not crazy enough to travel over the Doric Mountains themselves). As such, this mountain pass effectively made any invasion of Doria a treacherous one as capturing the capital would take either overwhelming force or unparalleled tactics to avoid the pass altogether. The pass itself is certainly wide enough to march an army through, perhaps several wagons could ride aside one another on the path, even so, it winds and weaves through the mountains, climbing in height from west to east. It is thought the pass was once a river itself, or at least that river had passed through it, however, the pass is now only half occupied by the river that runs down through the hilly pass towards Lake Egra.
