Aelish Tribes

The Aelish Tribes are a collection of nomadic tribes that are generally confined to the Palantar and Sarranid Mountains. The Aelish who form these tribes are organised around influential matriarchs who generally lead the tribes, deciding where the tribe will settle, who will marry whom and when the tribes will do battle with other tribes. The men of the tribes are highly militarised, trials of combat forming a key part of their culture, a barrier to privileges such as partnership and warrior status. Though the tribes will often battle one another, they will often collaborate and even form larger communities during the colder season.
The tribes are known to be hostile to their neighbouring feudal states, often raiding the farms and hill-nestled hamlets of the Grand Duchy of Canyndor and raiding the caravans of the Kingdom of Volnia who dare trek through the harsh northern deserts. Both the Duchy and Volnia have attempted to subjugate the tribes and bring an end to the friction between their societies without success, Surcount Veli of Ilkweir having been known to have conducted a particularly cruel campaign to bring the Aelish to heel.
