The Wilds Geographic Location in Renúdetla | World Anvil

The Wilds

The grasslands of the Savannah Wilds sweep across the landscape and stretch out for as far as the human eye can see. The land encompass such an incredible amount of space that many interior regions remain unmapped. The Wilds are prone to flash flooding during the wet seasons, while intense dry seasons parch the earth and boil away the moisture. Few humans occupy this area. There are no cities or towns found within the Savannah. Trading posts along the outskirts are few and far between. It would be fair to say that most sapient species have left this part of the world to the wilds of the old world, where spirits still walk Renúdetla, and terrors stalk the night. Many of the species that live here still possess many of the powers Spirits bestowed upon their ancestors. Myths of beasts and creatures from the depths of the Wilds have proliferated throughout the centuries in tales, legends and myths among sapient cultures.

Geography

Swells of Purple Oat Grass rise and fall in an endless sea of golden Urati that cover the plains and roll across the countryside with the tide of the hills. Precious few rivers run through the terrain during the wet season; the ground cracks and the air bakes during the dry season. Groves of Canvas Trees sparsely punctuate the landscape, and the occasional Shana Tree stands in solitude.

Fauna & Flora

Many of the grazing animals such as the Wildbeasts, their larger cousins the Silverback Wildbeast, Umoo and Umoi feed on the Urati grass and migrate with the seasons. The Wilds Belephant also feed on Urati and have a particular taste for Manamoto Grass. Many Belephant tribes are migratory as well.Smaller mammalian species such as the Juniper Mouse, and the Longpaw Hare make their nests underground and use the tall grasses as cover for potential predators such as the Sentinel Eagle and Spotted Darmiti that also occasionally hunt smaller game.   Insect lifeforms in the Wilds are also found in abundant diversity. Several species of Warrior Ants and Duma Beetles are typically preyed upon by creatures such as the Small Frilled Lizard, Small Ant Eater. Enormous structures of mud and clay are constructed by billions of Totem Termites that can be torn down in a matter of moments by the long claws of the Large Armored Termite Eater.   The Wilds are also home to some of the most dangerous predators on Renúdetla. Several cat species, such as the Spotted Darmiti, the Daggertooth Lion, and the largest cat species of all the Haerath all prey on herd animals as well as creatures such as the Six Horned Hog. Reptilian Death Stalkers share the Savanna Wilds with their mammalian competitors and tend to employ more sophisticated attacks than the felines, with the Haerath being the notable exception. The most threatening species on the savanna is perhaps also the most dangerous known terrestrial species on Renúdetla; the Dontikanichi.   There are several species of megafauna to be found in the Wilds in addition to the Dontikanichi. The Belephants, their larger cousins the Maorii, the Galokrato, Kratalo, Naziakrá, and few others. There are none larger however, than the long necked Maklaimós.
