Duma Beetle

Beetles that feed on feces. Various species are found throughout the grasslands, savannas, and steppe.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Nester species are wigned and tend to be many times the size of their burrower and roller cousins.

Genetics and Reproduction

Eggs are laid within feces for the grubs to feed upon hatching.

Growth Rate & Stages

Grubs stay on the ground long enough to consume the feces they were buried in. Those that are not picked off by predators burrow themselves underground for a period of weeks for a pupal stage to emerge as the adult beetle.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Three basic types of Duma Beetle; rollers, burrowers, and nesters. Rollers create a small ball of feces to roll back to their shelter. Burrower Beetles burrow themselves close to a recent food supply, and move shortly thereafter. Nesters burrow themselves within the feces itself. Nesters are aggressive, territorial, and carry a powerful set of jaws that can tear chunks of unprotected human flesh.
